Breakfast: Eggs Vs Cornflakes

I got the advice from different people on MFP to take eggs in the breakfast instead of cornflakes with milk. Eggs vegetable omlete breakfast has around 260 cal and cornflakes milk has 350 calories. So there is definitely a saving in calories. But only issue is cholestrol, with 2 eggs we take in 373 cholestrol while with the cornflakes there is no cholestrol intake. With the eggs breakfast everyday I am going over my daily level of cholestrol.
So my question is how you guys balance between calories intake and cholestrol intake?

Egg whites instead?
You're getting more benefit from the eggs due to the protein kick-starting your day.0 -
Eggs = Good... don't worry about the cholesterol.
LDL (low density lipoprotein) is the 'bad' type of cholesterol. If there is too much LDL cholesterol in the blood, it can slowly build up in the arteries, making them narrower, which increases the risk of heart disease. You should aim to lower your levels of LDL. You can do this by eating healthily and introducing Benecol® foods into your daily diet.
HDL (high density lipoprotein) is the 'good' type of cholesterol (e.g. EGGS!). It helps to remove excess cholesterol from the bloodstream and returns it to the liver where it is broken down and passed out of the body.

^^^Agreed!!! But I do love me some corn flakes!!!0 -
Corn Flakes with Silk0

Try almond or soy milk with the cornflakes - huge reduction in calorie / fats / etc
Eggs are fine but it is all a matter of personal taste.
Why not just swap in between them. Eating the same thing daily would get terribly boring.
Maybe try putting your cornflakes in your eggs.... or eggs in your milk!
The possibilities are endless.0 -
A couple things:
-A lot of studies are showing the cholesterol in eggs doesn't actually affect your cholesterol. So unless you're on medication for high cholesterol or your doctor has specifically told you to avoid foods with cholesterol in them, it really doesn't matter. If it's really an issue, you could always try egg whites (though you do sacrifice some of the nutritional value, since it is stored in the yolks).
-A veggie omelet is going to have WAY more nutritional value than plain old corn flakes and milk. More vitamins, minerals, fiber, etc.
-Corn flakes, and most breakfast cereals, really aren't very good for you in that they tend to be low in fiber and don't have a ton of vitamins and minerals. You could always try adding fruit to your corn flakes, or switch to a Kashi cereal or bran flakes.0 -
Liquid egg whites by FAAAAAAAR over cornflakes for breakfast, unless you're REALLY craving.0

prefer boiled egg whites or oatmeal over cornflakes as more of protein is taken...
but once in a while cornflakes with milk is a good option i have variety of light foods for breakfast0 -
Problem with cereals in general is they are high in sugar, which is what make them so high cal (I looove cereal) , what if you have eggs some of the days and something like rolled oats on other days, and cereal maybe only once or twice a week...do you have a cholesterol problem? I think that for most the cholesterol from eggs is only a problem if they are already having cholesterol problems (but don't quote me on that!)0

Can you give some examples of foods carrying LDL which we should reduce or avoid.? So what you are saying about eggs is they remove excess cholestrol from the artries instead of adding, thats interesting.0 -
I eat two eggs & a slice of wheat toast most days. I've never had my cholesterol checked, but as far as I know it's not a problem. Both my parents are big egg eaters too, mom's in her late 60s, dad mid 70s and both are in excellent health, no cholesterol problems.
I used to be a big cereal eater, but would be hungry in no time. The eggs give me a much better start to my day. My other breakfast is multi-grain oatmeal (from Trader Joe's) with greek yogurt, fresh fruit, walnuts & honey. That's actually higher in calories than the egg breakfast, but great for energy on the days that I run.
Feel free to look at my diary - I had the eggs this morning and the oatmeal yesterday.0 -
