I recently had a pap done, I got a call today from the clinic saying the doctor would like to follow up with my results with me, but that it is non-urgent and whatever showed up was common. I am freaking out a bit because I can't get in until Wednesday. What could it be?!

    Had an irregular result once, doc wanted it redone, redid it...tested fine--no big.

    My OBGYN says that every now and then pap results come back with "abnormalities" that they like to just keep an eye on. It doesn't mean cancer but they want to watch it very closely over a set period of time. If so, your doc will have you come back in say, 6 months for a follow up. My mom has had irregular results before and they all turned out to be nothing in the end.

    Apparently, it happens to many women at least once in their lives, and does not necessarily have to do with STDs or anything like that, although those (HPV) can show up as well. If your doc says it is non-urgent, believe them and don't stress.

    It could be anything and nothing at all. I would try and enjoy the weekend and not worry about it.
