No change in measurements?

Hey everyone,

I have a question.

I've lost 5% of my body weight through healthy diet and exercise (cardio and Pilates and light weights, 4 times weekly).

I know I've gained muscle because I feel a lot stronger and my endurance using those muscles has increased.

I'm just confused because I feel like my measurements should have changed, but they haven't... Shouldnt my measurements have decreased if I've lost weight and gained muscle?

Thanks!

Could be you've toned up where you've not taken measurements?

My waist and hips havent decreased by half as much as my thighs for example so if I didnt measure my thighs i wouldnt see as big of a difference. xxx

Girl I'm in the exact same boat! My weight hasn't changed, my measurements haven't change - but I can see more definition, so SOMETHING has to have changed. It's frustrating, but I keep reminding myself that even if the numbers aren't telling me that I'm changing, I feel better and I'm doing something good for my body.
  • i don't remeber exactley what the fiqure is but muscle is heavier than fat by quite a bit, it is possiable that if you have been gaining muscle then you are not doing anything wrong but you may not be losing weight as a result.

i think it's important to keep things in perspective when you are getting muscle gain, if you are continueing to feel good or better with the workouts that is good, if you are noticing a change in your shape or how your body feels that is progress.

take your victories where you can.

others may be abel to give you more specfic advise, but thats the best i can offer, remeber you will reach a goal but weight loss may not be the best goal to indicate improvment.

I go through phases of both - no weight loss but measurement loss, and then weight loss but without my measurements changing. I'm beginning to wonder how much of it is related to water balance. I also try to pay attention to how my clothes fit because, for some reason, even when I don't lose centimetres, my pants will still fit differently. It's like my thighs have migrated to my bum (neither of which are parts of my body that I measure) as I gained muscle on my bum! This, by the way, is a good thing because I normally have a flat *kitten* that won't hold my pants up, aka Pancake Bum.

That article imamihobo posted looks good, and the line in it about the water released when glycogen is burnt is really interesting.

That article is interesting iamihobo... Thanks! I think I'll keep doing what I'm doing for June, if no change I'll ramp up my exercise a bit more.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one this has been an issue for.
