Dear Friends,

I have set my carb intake to 180 gms..and wanted to know if i carbs from fruits and vegetables are ok even if I go over 180? I know carbs are carbs and should be restricted as much as possible but still wanted to double check it if only processed carbs are to be restricted or all carbs? My daily calorie target is 1800 and I have set my goals to 40% carb 40% protein and 20% Fat. Thats gives me 180 carbs but I have seen people posting to restrict carbs in the range of 100-150..please clear my doubts on Carbs.

Thank you all in advance.

Carbs are carbs. Your body does not see a difference between the sugars in those and that of a candy bar. The benefits of fruits and veggies are in the vitamins and the bulk (fiber) to fill you up.

If you are restricting carbs then it would be all you want to restrict. Many people lose weight just fine not restricting them. Many don't because of issues including diabetes and insulin resistance.

carbs are carbs, yes, but fiber makes an enormous difference. So eat as many fruits and vegetables as you want, but keep your added (simple) sugars to less than a teaspoon or so a day and don't worry about it too much.

If it helps, I've been keeping track of my sugar to fiber ratio and aiming for under 5:1, which is about the ratio of sugar to fiber in whole foods.

If it goes up over 5 it is ALWAYS because I had something processed. You're welcome to look at my diary to see what I mean.

want to bring this thread back to life. My PT has access to my diary on here and has advised I up my protein lower carbs, weve been working on this together for the last 5 weeks and now within the next 4 weeks I need to increase protein again. While Im getting used to protein shakes, bars etc I hate snacking on fruit in work to find my carbs have went right up. Any way around this other than not eating fruit?

Be selective about your fruits - raspberries, strawberries and blueberries are fairly low carb comapred to some.

But ultimately if you don't want to add to your cabs don't eat things that contain them !
