I'm very excited, and daunted, to start a healthier way of life. I've just given up drinking (alcoholic) and i'd like my body to feel as good as my soul is right now! Have any of you quit other addictions and then started to want to lose weight? I'm at the heaviest i've ever been and no alcohol to numb the feelings of yuck that go with it. But, i'm grateful and inspired right now. I even had a healthy salad for supper! lol It was tasty ><

Great accomplishment with the decision to stop drinking. I've had terrible eating habits for as long as I can remember. I've tried to change them but it was always with the mindset of it's all or nothing so now I'm going to try breaking it down into small steps so it's not so daunting. My first goal is to focus on getting adequate water. I'm not a fan of water at all but besides all of the health & beauty benefits it has I have a medical condition that makes it difficult for me to get enough water. so it would really do me a lot of good. I figure that could be something that would be good for my weight loss and my soul also!

I also have terrible eating habits. I just like bad food too much! I also grew up pretty poor so i'm trying to get out of the mentality that i won't have enough to eat. Right now, if it's there i feel like i need to eat it. That might be the hardest part, followed by exercise. I get winded so quickly and that's frustrating. But, i know i need to start out small and build my way up.

Me too. That's a tough one to beat. I still buy way too much food and then end up giving, throwing it away. It helps to buy stuff you like that you can eat. Also, start finding good food you actually like.
    Good Stuff:
1 cup strawberries with Redi-whip in the can = 63 calories.
A graham cracker broke in half with Redi-whip in middle and frozen like an ice cream sandwich = 75 cals (low fat honey maid cinnamon graham).
    Cheerios (1 cup) & Skim Milk (1/2 cup) = 140 cals
Oatmeal (1/2 cup unprepared) with whole apple cut up = 230 cals
Chicken, tuna (in a can has sodium, but easy snack!!), salmon, trout
Brocolli, yellow squash, snow pea pods, carrots are all great snacks!
Almonds = 7 cals each and add crunch to anything and are great for you.
Watch prepared turkey burgers. Those suckers have a lot of cals for only 1/4 pound portion.
Check out the recipe forum for tons of ideas =)

    Junk food I love
Sugar free jello with whip = 35 cals serving.
1 container jello sugar-free dark chocolate pudding, redi-whip, 10 peanuts, sugar-free strawberry syrup = 110 cals and makes me feel like I am cheating.
Sugar free sorbet and or sherbert
Swiss Miss breakfast cocoa and redi-whip

Also, might want to try some teas. I drink tons of tea =)

    Congrats on starting your journey.

God bless you for realizing your powerlessness over that cunning, baffling, and powerful liquid. Use that feeling that you have in your soul and ask God for His help with making better choices with food. I have had seven wonderful months of sobriety by God's grace, and I can HONESTLY say that I have NEVER BEEN BETTER, FELT BETTER, BEEN HAPPIER than I am today, and each day seems to be better than the day before.

I was already quite far into my weight loss journey when I decided that I needed help with my addiction, but having the added benefit of having God's help has been extremely valuable to me. Best of luck to you, and feel free to add me as a friend if you want to have some help from a fellow alcoholic.
