starting a running/ pilates program

Hi,
I've been doing exercise classes- power yoga, circuit and pump but have been reading about how running is a better option for losing visceral fat- which is what I want to do. Also, I want to cut back on my exercising (5 hours a week of high intensity mainly strength classes) because it makes me ravenous and I've actually gained weight and lost out on the lovely progress I had made 2 years ago with calorie counting.
I'm thinking of starting running (on my treadmill) starting with about 20 min x 3/4 times a week and doing pilates twice a week at my gym.
Any comments/ suggestions/ ideas?
I'm starting grad school in August and I want to be fit and skinny before then.
