What does your shopping list look like?

Hey everyone! I'm just trying to get a feel for what my weekly shopping list should look like... I either don't buy enough or I buy way too much! I always buy fresh veggies with the intention of cooking them, but they often go bad before I get around to it :/

I'm just wanting to see what all of your choices are at the grocery store, farmers market, or wherever. I'm desperate to find a balance!

I tend to shop food that does not go bad at the supermarket, i.e. meat and fish which can be frozen and some frozen veg. Throughout the week I visit the local shops and buy the fruit and veg for that day. I use to waste so much money on throwing away veg that was going off.

Here is my current grocery list (I left out the non-food things like toilet paper, soap, etc.)

veggies for salads (greens, tomotoes, cucumbers, peppers, mushrooms, sprouts)
veggies for wraps (same as above)
veggies for soup (celery, carrots, potatoes, canned tomotoes, cabbage, peas)
veggies for dinner to go with meat (turnip, squash, beans, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, corn on the cob)
    fresh garlic
    fresh herbs/spices

fruit (whatever is on sale... melon, berries, apples, oranges, bananas, etc.)

    low fat milk
    low fat yogurt
    eggs
    low fat/pre-portioned cheese
    fat-free sour cream
    low fat cream cheese
    feta cheese

    whole wheat bread
    whole wheat pitas
    whole wheat tortillas
    brown rice
    whole wheat pasta
    sweet pototoes
    red potatoes
    barley

    fish
    shellfish
    chicken
    ground beef
    groud turkey
    fat-free hotdogs
    sandwich meat
    pork tenderloin
    lean beef

    frozen vegetables
frozen ice cream treats (around 80-100 cals)
    frozen thin crust pizza
    frozen Lean Cuisines

    beans
    lentils
    fiber cereal
    oatmeal
    snack crackers
    diet soda
    club soda
    pasta sauce in jar
    salsa
    olive oil
    cooking spray
    mustard
    protein bars
    beef jerkey
    almonds
    popcorn
    dill pickels
    Balsamic vinegar
    black olives
    light peanut butter
    canned tuna
    light mayo

Force yourself to cut up/store your veggies and fruit as soon as you get home and that way, you will be more apt to use them. Also, plan your meals around what goes bad first. For example, for my lunches (that I bring to work)... I'll have salads the first week, I'll make a vegetable/chicken soup the next week and bring that and the third week, I'll bring tuna sandwiches or frozen dinners.

I keep my list in the notepad app on my iPhone, and put a star by things I already have in the house. I generally group everything by category (fruit/veg, grains, canned items, etc) and add/remove things from time to time. This is how it currently looks though.

    baby carrots
    small apples
    strawberries
    bananas
    lemons
    frozen broccoli florets
    frozen stir fry
    frozen precooked shrimp
    sliced chicken breast
    low fat pepperjack cheese
    low fat string cheese
light i can't believe it's not butter spread
    2% milk
kozy shack no sugar added rice pudding
    plain greek yogurt
    whole wheat bagel thins
    multigrain sandwich thins
    kashi heart to heart waffles
high fiber maple & brown sugar oatmeal packets
    bran flakes
    banana nut life bars
    odwalla bars
    luna bars
    high fiber light english muffins
    whole grain linguine pasta
    whole grain farfalle pasta
    light cool whip
all natural no sugar added cherry preserves
    low sodium chicken broth
low sodium canned red kidney beans
    low sodium canned black beans
    cooking spray

Whew, that's one hell of a list. Haha.
