adding strength training??

So I've decided to add some sort of strength training to my 6 hours of cardio a week...not sure what to add/what to do. I have a gym membership but going "upstairs" (where they keep all of the equipment.. weight machines, tredmills, ellipticals, etc) kinda intimidates me. I much prefer to be downstairs in my classes! In short, strength training freaks me out. Where do I start?

Check to see if your gym offers a free intro session with a trainer - most gyms do. If you can afford it, purchase a few additional sessions. This way you can have someone walk you through a couple of strength training routines, and show you proper form. And it helps a lot with the intimidation factor.0
