Hi hope you can help - i can t get my head around how this all works. If my calories allowance is say 1200 - does that mean i can eat that amount. If i work uyr twice a week and "gain" 900 calories, does that mean i can divide them also over the week and eat more? So by sticking to 1200 i shoul ose weight? Sorry if this is very clear and obvious!!

Yes, if your allowance is 1200, that is what you should net after exercise.

This means if you burn 200 calories exercising one day, you should eat 1400 calories that day. This will not make you gain weight, it is how MFP is set up.

Your body likely expends somewhere in the neighbourhood of 2000 calories daily from things such as walking around, eating, tidying, whatever it is that you normally do in between sitting down. So if you NET 1200 calories, you'll be at a calorie deficit, meaning you're burning more than you're eating, which should result in loss.

Remember, Calorie consumption - exercise = NET. The NET is the important number. If your goal is 1200, the NET should be 1200.

If you're still confused, feel free to send me a message.

    My opinion is this:

Try to work out more consistantly.

If you only work out 2 times a week and try to spread those out it will be harder for you to track your calories efficiantly on here unless you are using some other spreadsheet to track weekly calories. Otherwise every day is going to say that you are over on your calories eaten except that days that you actually work out. Then you will be way under.
