I'm losing weight very slowly. I wonder if I'm eating too little?
I tried to aim for 1000, then switched back to 1200 calories per day.
From reading/researching about this, it seems like I have to deduct 500 calories from my BMR. Is that true?

Thank you for your reply in advance.

Deducting 500 from your TDEE is the setting here for losing 1 lb/week.

Your TDEE is your Total Daily Energy Expenditure which will be at least 20% higher than your BMR if you have a sedentary job / lifestyle.

So target = 1.2 * BMR - 500 which is typically a bit below your BMR.

    Yes^ - Yarwell's formula is correct.

I just want to add - weight loss is not linear. So people with lots of weight to lose can strive for a 1 or 2 pound loss per week. As you get smaller ... your weight loss goal should be smaller too. I have 15 pounds to lose & the best I can hope for is 1/2 pound per week.

1000 calories is too little for almost everyone. You may not be eating enough even at 1200.

It depends on how much you currently weigh really.

A girl whos 5'2 and 115 pounds will have to eat a lot less to lose weight than someone who's the same height and lets say, 150 pounds.
