I'm dreading my vacation! Help!

The hubs & I are headed to Savannah next week to celebrate our 1st anniversary. I've been looking forward to this for months, but now that it's right around the corner I'm realizing that keeping up the diet & exercise will be more difficult away from home. We're staying in a rental w/ a kitchen, so I'm not going to eat out every meal, which will be a great help. We're also planning to do a lot of walking, so that's good too. I'm just nervous about it, so I guess my real questions are:
1. Any tips for staying on track while you travel?
2. Any Savannah locals out there have any ideas of where to eat so I can enjoy my meal & not feel like I need to move into the gym permanently when I get home?
p.s. on an unrelated note, I'm also thinking about some new ink while we're there. Anyone know a good tattooer in or around the city?

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!
I can't be much help since I haven't lived there in 20 yrs, but if you are planning to do some cooking and walking, you should be ok. I hear the night life is pretty great and dancing burns calories too. Just enjoy in moderation. And have fun!!0 -
If you know your TDEE just keep logging and try to stay under that. You won't gain anything more than water weight if you do. Have a great time!
If you get any new ink while you're there will you post a picture for your friends? I'd love to see!0 -
fo specific city info (tattoos, whee to eat healthy, etc) go to that citys 'city data' message boad page. geat place to go looking for info
on vacation.... i dont diet. if i want dessert - i have one - if i want a dink- i have one.
i figure im not going to torture myself on vacation. especially if youre walking around a lot/ doing lots of stuff..... the extra calories prob wont hurt. now, if all you do is sit the whole time and pig out well.... theres consequences.
since you have a place with a kitchen, you can make ahead healthy meals (are you driving?) - and keep healthy snacks on hand. have a small snack before dining out - you wont be as hungry and wont eat as much0 -
Thanks for the help (& the happies) I think I just needed to hear that it won't be a diet disaster from someone other than myself
I keep trying to convince myself, but it's always better to hear it from somebody else.
Ya'll rock my socks!
I will of course share pics if any new tatts happen
We're flying, but we'll have a car so the plan is to hit a grocery store first thing so I can get some go-to good munchies right away!0 -
Happy Anniversary! I travel a lot for work, and know how hard it can be to stick to diet/fitness when you are out of your routine -- even more so when you are celebrating. I'm no expert, but here are a couple suggestions:
1. I was going to suggest bringing your "go to" healthy snacks with you, but I see you are already planning to hit the grocery store to get them first thing. This is key. You will be less likely to snack on high calorie junk if you have your protein bars, peanut butter, or whatever it is you normally use to quell your hunger between meals.
2. If you have an iPhone (or iPad), download Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred. Do Level 1 (or the higher levels if you are able) each morning first thing when you wake up. It's only twenty minutes (that's nothing!) and buys you extra calories to use on fun stuff for the rest of the day. I would think Android has it also, if you have an Android phone. Likewise, there are a ton of exercise type apps that you can download to your phone to get a quick workout in each morning -- many of which are free.
Most of all, though -- have fun! I tend to agree that you shouldn't torture yourself if you are on vacation.0 -
Happy Anniversary. Do not worry so much about your food on your vacation because of all the walking. We have never been to Savannah but we love Charleston. Also, before you go look up Savannah Georgia trip advisor. I use trip advisor for all the things to do category and restaurant info.0
