exercise in the heat?

Any suggestions for fitting in exercise in the heat (non-gym)?
I just moved to a new city where there are no affordable gyms (no YMCA near by) and I work a rotating schedule. Some days I work really early (4AM) and can only workout in the afternoon, when it's really hot. I have heat aggrivated asthma so I'm looking options for cardio when my workout time is during the hottest part of the day. I'm on the early shift this week and was trying to jump rope in the yard yesterday but it was so hot I couldn't breathe!
I don't have any money to buy a treadmill or any equipment and I don't always have a car (I share with hubby) to travel to anything like a pool. Ideas?

Do you have air condtioning , a ceiling fan, or a basement?
There are tons of these on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnsfbneFQ_8&feature=related
This link is for "Walk at Home" with Leslie Sansone. DVDs are available at Wal-mart, Target, Best Buy. The beauty of these ... you can workout at night too, it will be a little cooler then.
A trip to the mall might be in order. Bring light handweights & really pump your arms while walking briskly.0 -
No A/C either, we do have a finished basement though. We just bought the house a few weeks ago so things are chaotic still (boxes everywhere as I have no motivation to unpack in this heat wave!) I do have the full P90 program which I thought about trying but there's no room for that until I unpack more.
I could do the mall sometimes, but without a car it would be rare. We do live near a park with about 5km of trails. When it's not hot, I plan to go walk/run there. It's just the super hot days I need options.
If I clear enough space in the basement I could always hula hoop for an hour. It does get the heart pumping and it's better than nothing!0 -
I would either go in the morning or wait until the evening when it's cooler out.
I live in IL, so summer time is cool in the morning/evening and hot during the day.. so if it's my cardio day, I take a walk in the morning before the full sun gets out.0 -
I often end up running or biking during the hottest part of the day b/c that's when my kid naps. It's doable, but you have to be very careful to make sure you're properly hydrated beforehand, and you can't push yourself as hard as usual. There have been a couple times where I was lazy about hydrating before the run, and I ended up having to stop and walk b/c I just got too dehydrated to keep running.0

I would gather drinking warm/hot water during hot weather while working out is bad, or does it matter for hydration really? (I'm not allowed to drink cold or room temp water - which is a whole other story)0
