Do you..

a) Plan the week ahead with a Mon-Sun "menu", then make a shopping list of your needed ingredients to buy at the store/supermarket or..
b) Just get a whole lot of healthy food and just eat whatever you feel like on the day (obviously within your cal limit!)

I've never been a good meal planner. I go to the grocery store at least once a week and stock up on plenty of healthy foods. Then I eat whatever sounds good that day.

I do a both depending on how busy my days are. Most times I plan ahead and shop on Wednesday.. If I happen to forget something, I pick it up the next day. It helps there's a grocery store right next to my job. I find it's much easier to plan and cook ahead of the week. I don't have to give much thought to what I'm gonna eat.

We try to make a meal plan... at least for dinners just so we know what to take out of the freezer.

We usually don't though and when we do our groceries we just write down what we need. We usually buy the same group of things so we just write it down when we are low or out of it for when we go.

If we are making something specific I make sure to put the ingredients on the list. If not we usually just go with what we are feeling for that day.

I not only plan my meals ahead for food shopping but I also cook all my meals on Sunday so I don't have to cook when I get home from the gym everynight. I just heat up my food and I'm ready to go. If I didn't I would be eating after 9:00 and that's just too late. i also brown bag my breakfast, lunch and snacks to the office everyday. But that is something you get used to when working in NYC.

I'm not a planner.. my schedule makes it impossible and I'm one of those people that have to be in the mood to eat any given item. Weird, I know, lol. That being said, I do a weekly grocery trip and stock up on the usual items and/or what's on sale and then each day I can adjust what I make depending on what's going on. Lots of easy, quick stuff... chicken breasts, individually frozen fish, shrimp, frozen veggies, couscous, eggs.

I'm not allowed any say in what we eat for dinner. My husband has taken over the kitchen, grocery shopping, planing, and cooking.

    Because I got us fat.

    He's lost 60lbs and I've lost 25lbs. So I guess it's working out.

(I did not intentionally get us fat, I am a baker and cake decorator on the side, and the fact that I can whip up anything sweet at the drop of a hat, bake my own homemade bread, and cook traditional (read fried) Southern soul food ended up having a bit of a consequence on our waist line.)

I plan a basic menu for the week so that I have most of what I need to cook healthy dinners and pack healthy lunches/snacks. This time of year, it's a little easier as mostly we just marinade meat and throw it on the grill and serve with a veggie and rice or potatoes. Even if the forecast brings on rain (like it's doing for the next couple days), I always have some favorite recipes handy that are easy enough to throw together after a quick trip to the grocery store.

I might plan ahead for one or two meals to meet a specific craving or request. Otherwise I just pick up any staples I need along with enough from every major food group to make it through the week. I go in the store knowing I need vegetables, fruit, meat, etc, and leave with whatever looks good and/or is on sale in each of those categories.

I plan based on the local grocery's upcoming sales and on what I have in the freezer. If something is a particularly good bargain I buy a bunch and freeze it.
