how to mix it up at the gym

I'm sure this has been covered and I tried to search (but then it won't let you hit the back button after you read something...grr). Anyway:

How can I mix up the treadmill, elliptical and "arc" trainer at the gym? I feel like I can only get "true" cardio on those machines yet I'm bored and even the elliptical is starting to hurt my knee.

I can't be trusted with DVDs or OnDemand workouts-I turn them off early or fast forward! So I have to go to the gym. There are no classes until much later in the day and I'd like to go now.

I'll take any ideas!! Thanks!

do a tabata protocol workout, they're short, and give you a KILLER workout. you're far to in pain to be bored.

You can mix things up on those cardio machines by doing intervals or HIIT instead of steady pace the whole time. On the treadmilll you can try walking backwards and sideways for a change. Add some strength training a couple days a week too.
