If your not in the mood for reading, at least take a look at the table which sums up the differences in the studies between aerobic exercise and resistance training, http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/113/22/2642/T1.expansion.html and scroll down to the summary of the first link.
Basically they recommend both types of exercise, and "There is good evidence that RT reduces total body fat mass in men and women, independent of dietary caloric restriction. There is also good evidence that RT reduces visceral adipose tissue in older men and women."
