Tell me why or why not?
I recently got *****ed at, at a gym I have never been to, I was out of town, for not having clips on my barbell. I was squating 30lbs + bar, so really I needed clips? I didn't think so. I have heard arguments for both. I need thoughts.

Why: So the plates don't slide off if you tilt the bar.
Why not: So the plates can slide off if you tilt the bar.
I usually have them on for squats. I can see the benefit of leaving them off if there's no way to set the bar down if you fail a rep. That way you can dump the plates if you need to. (Same with bench press.)
I don't bother with them for rows, deadlifts...0
