Just wondering if those of you with kids feed them what your eating or cook them something else? I personally feed my kids what i eat because i want to teach them how to eat healthy and thats healthy food can be good. My daughter even said the other day that when she gets bigger(older) that she wants to exercise with me. Shes 3 1/2 years old. So it makes me feel good that my kids see exercise as something fun to do.

I agree with you. I have a one year old son and he eats what we eat. I have to admit there are some exceptions ~ if I use a spicy marinade/rub on my chix I will cook him a plan piece but, I have him try the spicey one too.

My son will pick fruits & veggies over cookies & cupcakes any day. I do know that when he gets older that may change but, I feel like I am giving him a good healthy start.

Don't get me wrong my son does have his fair share of sweets and he does enjoy them (his favorite is vanilla ice cream)

I've been very fortunate that my kids eat most everything.

Ever since they were little, I offered a variety of foods to them and for the most part, they like or at the very least tolerated them.

Since going on my new lifestyle/diet, the only thing that has changed is I don't eat the traditional "Starch" served with dinner.
I make a protein, starch and veggie most nights. ON the nights we have spaghetti n such, I usually just have the salad and
    toss on a protein.

My 11 yr old eats just about everything from yogurt, to fish, to quinoa. All fruits and most veggies save, brussel sprouts. I actually
have a tougher time getting enough fruits in the 16 yr old, who dosn't care for yogurt either. The 16 year old is a couch potato
like her Dad, but I keep encouraging her to find an activity that gets her moving. The 11 year old is a "mini-me"- always ready
to go for a walk, run and wants to go to the gym with me. She is insisting to join me on my next 5K and WarriorDash! lol

I feed my son what I eat except when there is too much spice in my meal. I like curries and other spicy food, so I make him something different (usually leftovers) whenever I indulge my need to burn taste buds.

My kids also love fruits and veggies. But they to also eat sweats but I try to limit that. I always say if they eat all of their meal then they cam have a piece of candy.

Yes, the only real exception to this is lunch. I eat a low calorie lunch (usually Progresso soup), but let my kids have pretty much whatever they want. They usually want PB&J (we use spreadable fruit, or just thin slices of fruit-bananas, strawberries, etc) and a piece of fruit, maybe some Goldfish crackers. I'm never going to cook two separate dinners, that's just too bad! If the meal is too fattening for me, I will skip the sides or load up on salad first. If it's too healthy/yucky for them, well that's just too bad! My kids are 2 and 5 year old boys and my daughter is 13 so yes, very fun ages where they test their boundaries!

I feed my kids what I eat most of the time. I know that some of the things I eat fall in the category of things my kids don't like, so I'll offer them an alternative after they try it. Sometimes it just means having 3-5 different vegetables offered at a meal because my oldest son is picky. I'd rather he ate the veggies he likes than none at all.

When we go out to eat they like to order mac and cheese (they don't get this at home often). The waitresses always get surprised when they order broccoli to go with it instead of fries. :)

We all eat pretty much the same, but they are sooooo picky. There are nights that they will eat only 1 or 2 bites and tell me they're all done. They don't get anything else either. It's very frustrating!!

I do to a point. We have a lot of things to work around in our family. My husband will and can eat anything but is a huge meat eater, my oldest daughter will try anything, but is pretty against eating meat. My middle child will not even look at a vegetable, rice, potatoes etc and is allergic to dairy and peanuts. My son is allergic to soy and dairy, but will eat veggies but no rice or potatoes, and I'm vegan.

So technically we all eat the same meals, but I do have to do some creative plating to get everyone what they need/want. My middle child is the hardest to feed because she hates all the side and just wants meat, so we usually give whatever meat we are having for dinner along with some crackers or pretzels. We do put everything we are having on her plate, even if we know she won't eat it, at least its there for her in case she decides to try.

I will not cook separate meals for the kids. They have the choice of eating something I cooked (even if its just the chicken) or they can go hungry. I will not make them a different meal totally just because they don't "like" what I made first, and I always make sure that there is something they really like on their plate.

This only goes for dinner BTW, I will cook them whatever they want for breakfast/lunch. They usually choose cheerios for breakfast, and turkey/ham, crackers and fruit for lunch. My oldest daughter packs her own lunch for school.

This is true for my son as well. I always made his 'baby' food. His day care would tell me that he has the best diet out of all the kids. I think introducing a variety of foods at a young age has encouraged my son to have a healthy diet.

I think it's up to us to set the example for our kids. IF it's good enough for me, it better be good enough for our kids. Why change our lifestyle and then give them something that's unhealthy. That's almost like setting them up for failure. I think it's great so many of us choose to feed our kids healthy food. Many parents do not these days.

I do. I also make their candy sometimes. Dried fruits and fruit rollups in the dehydrator. And they love their smoothies! And homemade "ice cream" which is nothing but frozen bananas, peanut butter and cocoa!!
  • I don't have kids...but I try to get my nephews to eat healthy. It is easy with the 10 year old...with the 5 year old..not so easy.

I did before they grew up and moved out. When my grandson is over, he eats what we eat.

Yes and my ex tells me off for feeding her body building food.

    Apparently feeding her:

    Chicken
    Beef
    Eggs
    Rice
    Sweet potato

And the like will give her a complex about healthy eating... hmmm. She's 5' and 196lb and I look like me. Wonder who may have a better grasp on healthy eating?

I just wanna say I commend all of you who are teaching your children healthy eating habits. Unfortunately, I started a little late on this with my son. He is 8 now and a SUPER picky eater. I still offer him healthy foods but I don't always force him to eat it and admittedly given in often and give him something he prefers. He does take a multi-vitamin, drink fruit juice, and pediasure and lots of water. We are working on more fruit and veggies. My 1 yr old is off to a great start though, she eats almost everything except for a few veggies which I continue to offer to her, prepared different ways. I sure wish that my family and parents had introduced me to healthier foods at a younger age so I do not think anyone is doing a disservice to their children by making them eat healthy.
