Good morning!
I slacked off on my push ups yesterday so I forced myself to do them today. I am on week 1 level 2. I didn't like it but I did it!
Alex has been sleeping on the landing just outside our door, so I've had to put the baby gate up so he won't fall down the stairs. Now I'm thinking I should put it in his doorway. I had to get up and move him three times last night. I don't know that he's sleep walking. I think he just wants to be in our room and he knows he can't sleep in there so he sleeps as close as he can. Anyway, last night seemed long.
Today is tumbling class and more cleaning. That's about it. There's rain in the forecast all week and I am not complaining! So I don't know if I will get to run this week. I may get on the treadmill at the retreat this weekend.
CP, I really don't know how to help you with the doctor. I asked some of my friends, and ended up not liking her. So that's not much help.
I hope the cooler temps move that way Mary!
V, good job on the push ups!
Gotta get busy boogaloo!

    Morning pebbs,

I'm feeling my pushups a little bit. Not exactly sore, just aware I did something.

The ice cream monster called last night, and my husband and I went to get some. But, we took this meandering walk through a neighborhood (about 5K) to offset a teeny bit. A very teeny bit. I did the calorie count when I got home and I went over by 200ish calories for the day (which is my deficit right now, so I broke even). No regrets, it was delicious and we had a lovely walk.

Today, I'm trying once again to try the new spin teacher (hopefully this mystery man is back from his vacation). I also need to buy a cooler for our trip, and get a couple more things organized. Also, hydrating, vits, and maybe cleaning something.

    Take care of yourselves.:flowerforyou:

When do you leave, V? I found individual servings of peanut butter that get me through the hungry spots on the train - I combine them with, get this, "Mary's gone crackers" - don't know if you have these, but they are gluten free.

Today is hard yoga class and bike to the store. I think I pulled a butt muscle last Saturday. It felt fine yesterday until yoga and it twinged again. I hope I can make it through class today. I think I need to question why I'm always hurting myself - and not knowing exactly what I did to do so.

    Shade boogaloo!

Thought this was interesting, from Marion Nestle's Food Politics site:

"calorie labeling in California is having a big effect - on the companies, if not customers. The chains are madly cutting down on calories. The most impressive example is a Macaroni Grill 1,270-calorie scallop-and-spinach salad (I can’t even imagine how they did this), which is now just a normal 390."

as well as sodium amounts at Denny's:
    * 2,580 mg Moons Over My Hammy sandwich (ham, egg, cheese)
    * 4,120 mg Spicy Buffalo Chicken Melt with regular fries
    * 5,690 mg Meat Lover’s Scramble (eggs, bacon, sausage, bacon)

I think of all the people that I see "salt" their food - when I worked at a TexMex place, I saw people salt refried beans - the same beans that were made, with get this, 3 CUPS of salt (I never knew how many beans this made, maybe 5 gallons?, I don't think it matters - 3 cups is 3 cups).

Good morning, all. I am sore this morning, too - quads from running, shoulders/chest/arms from pushups. Tonight is belly dance class, and I may do a yoga DVD when I get home to stretch out a bit. It's supposed to be hot today, though they dialed back the forecast a bit - we probably won't hit 90 after all. Sorry, Mary.

    Finally summer boogaloo!

I saw that, Mary. The sodium numbers were unbelievable (as was the nearly 2000 calorie salad). 3 cups of salt in anything is alarming. Yikes. I've always said that if your average person spent a week in a restaurant kitchen, they'd think a bit more about eating out. . .

I love the Mary's gone crackers crackers. I always get the savory kinds, but I never thought of the plain with PB. That would be perfect little snacktime. My plan is to not go crazy on vacation (which frankly I usually do. . .dessert twice a day, burgers and fries, etc.) but to still allow myself to eat things I wouldn't normally eat. The main trick is not using food to combat boredom and stress. I just don't want to gain ten pounds in 15 days.

Oh, and I leave the first (Saturday. . .eeek!). I'm pretty much freaking out with excitement/anxiety. I haven't gone on a vacation of this length in years and years, and never with a partner (I once drove diagonally cross country solo. . .long story). So, I'm just trying to make sure all of the financial ducks are in a row, and I have all the directions/addresses I need. (I guess I shouldn't worry, really, because I'll have my laptop and wi-fi at least every few days. . .but I'm preparing like I'm going into the wilderness Louis and Clark style.) I'm a worrier.:ohwell:

    A road worrier?

I'm jealous of your vacation, V - I went to the Badlands (and Yellowstone) when I was a kid and loved it. I really want to go again, but it's hard to find the time for a good road trip when you only get 2 weeks vacation. :ohwell:

    3 cups of salt?

OK: road worrier cracked me up. Yeah, taking the time is really hard (neither of us get any paid vacation. . .so the expense has me freaking out a bit. . .combine that with the just plain distance we're traveling and well. . .I'm practicing my deep breathing quite often.

No paid vacation????? I know your husband is a musician but still! My BIL, who works for the Univ of Ontario, gets 4 weeks. Not kidding.

I'm a lowly TA, and I do get a week I think. . .but it's spaced out over my paycheques, and it's minimal. Someday, when I grow up and get to be a contract faculty (I won't go into the fact that I'm already doing that work. . .:grumble: ) then I'll get some paid vacation time.

Alas... I used to have 5 weeks when I worked at the University (I started with 3, and got to 5 after being there 7 years). That was hard to give up when I left. At the time, though, my husband hardly had any time off, so I couldn't take advantage of it as much as I would have liked. I traded that and a window for less aggravation and a big salary increase, though, so I really can't complain.

V, I'm the same way about planning and preparation - and worrying. But I am sure you'll have a great time. :flowerforyou:

Alright Pebbles. I'm getting frustrated. For at least two weeks I have tried eating better, that includes staying of wheat and sugar for the most part. It's not working. I've lost the same two pounds over and over again. As much wheat and sugar as I had before I started this stupid diet, I thought I'd lose like 5 pounds. If it doesn't make any difference why am I bothering with this nasty sugar free junk? I can't say that I feel that much different, except I don't have the sugar crashes like I did. I also don't crave sugar as much, but maybe that's because I'm still having sugar free popsicles and hard candy. It's just frustrating. I really didn't want to use my age or my thyroid as an excuse. I'm not old but I'm in my 30's and I've heard it gets harder after 30. I also have no thyroid, so I have hypothyroidism but it's regulated with medicine. I'm sad.
I had to vent. Sure I've been lazy and haven't worked out much BUT I've been eating better and less! It should make a difference right? :grumble: I think I will add fruit back in. I miss fruit juice but I think that's way too much sugar. OH that reminds me. You all were talking about soy the other day. I've been drinking unsweetened chocolate soy milk. What is your take on that?
Okay I think I am done.
    Frustrated booglaloo.
