What if you could have genetic perfection?

I've seen Repo! the Genetic Opera a million times, but today is the first time I realized one of the songs asks;
"And what if you could have genetic perfection?
Would you change who you are if you could?"

Kind of makes me think about my transformation that’s coming with hard work. So would you if you could....

Well I'm genetically gifted in the one area that counts , so I wouldn't want to change that.

The only thing I would change would be my heart. I was born with a congenital defect in my mitral valve. I would love to have a healthy normal heart.

Otherwise, I like me, just as I am.

    Have you seen Gattaca?

Doesn't matter if you are born genetically perfect, accidents can happen...

Looking at over half of my family (incl. extended), it's clear that I have some sort of genetic predisposition to holding onto fat for dear life. Ideally, I'd not have been dealing with that for the last 30 years. But it has made me stronger, more determined, and taught me that hard work pays off. It's all a part of who I am. To change something like that... well, who would I be then? How do I know I would be better?

    Also: who defines "genetic perfection"?

Oh good I wasn't being a nutbar when I thought the title sounded like it was from Repo!.

Being the world what it is, it would seem any perfection would come with a price. I don't think I'd want something as far as it, but I'd definitely want my genetics more in my favor.

Perfection is a matter of opinion, anyway. What I think is perfect, you or anyone else may not... however, if I could be MY version of perfect? Maybe, but then again, I might be really egotistical.

My base instinct is to say "yes I would love genetic perfection"

But then I realize that I would not be where I am today without having to struggle and that the struggle is what made me what I am. Not having to struggle, I shudder to think of the possibilities my life could have taken. I could be one of those dudes that frost tips his hair, pops his collar, and pulls my shirt up to take pictures of myself in front of a bathroom mirror every other day and posts it to facebook.

    ^This is beautiful. :)

I feel silly now for wishing I had my mothers hips -_-.... Stupid wide hip bones. My mom and sister have virtually the SAME measurements. 5'7ish, 32-26-34. While I'm 5'11 and mine are 36-28-38 and it annoys the heck outta me.

If one more person points out my 'child bearing hips', I may cry!

    I love Repooooo. <3

Second, no. I think my genetic makeup is fine as it is. I'd remove the Asperger's maybe but then again I'd have to readjust to everything as a neurotypical person. So yeah, still no. :P

Ummm...maybe not everything, but some things I'd like to change. I'd like to keep my blue eyes, my long eyelashes, my lips, my nose, my teeth (naturally straight and very few dental issues), my athletic build (naturally muscular, thick bones, etc...), and a few other things. What I'd like to change...my predisposition to obesity, my abnormally large boobs, my short stature (I'm 5'4", but I'd prefer to be about 5'8"), my "man" hands, my thin and difficult-to-grow fingernails, my thin hair, my PCOS, my Fred Flintstone feet, and my lack of coordination.

I don't know what perfection is....so no. I would never be happy. My idea of beauty changes every day...I think so many people are beautiful.

If I could alter anything genetically it would maybe be the size/shape of my breasts...and that I would never get grey hair...or wrinkles...haha Other than that, I am pretty happy with myself.

Oh, maybe a few inches taller...lol

I really try to focus on the gifts I was given rather than the ones I wasn't. Unfortunately it seems to be human nature to compare ourselves and feel we don't measure up, and focus on the parts of ourselves we wish were different. This gives me an idea for a thread... BRB

Its our imperfections that make us beautiful. I'm good with what I've got under the fluff : P

My genetic pre-disposition to high blood pressure and cholesterol problems.... and metabolism.

Do these genes make me look fat?

I have a physically disabled son that has a genetic condition, so for his sake- I would like to have been genetically perfect prior to conceiving him. Life will be tough for him.

I would remove my genetic Scoliosis. Its a double recessive, if my hubby has even one gene of it, i have a 1-in-4 chance any child of mine would have it.

And I will NOT put a child thru the HORROR I went thur as a child due to this monster.

Beauty (or perception of) and genetics are not the same thing. The majority of people ARE genetically perfect. Their bodies function as they should, they react to outside stimuli, as they should. It is only our influence that makes us perceive ourselves to be imperfect.

As it happens, I have a genetic disorder, my fibrillin does not behave as it should, and because of this I have many imperfections that stop my body behaving in a perfect manner. So yes, I would like to change that.
