Exercise....who needs it?

Well I do!!!!

So I am a single mom with 4 kids and I work a full-time job , 6 days a week. I need some suggestions for easy beginner exercises. I am so tired when I get home that truthfully, I don't want to do anything. I work then cook dinner, get the kids ready for the next day etc...

I need to begin doing something though as I am also a type 1 diabetic.

Any ideas for some beginner exercises? Something kind of fun????

I hate exercising and I lose interest quickly.

PLEASE HELP!

Feel free to add me as well if you want. I need all the support I can get. Thanks!

-Jessica

I would suggest looking at the Jillian Michaels DVDs. She has modified versions and you can do them at home. Ripped in 30 is good. You would need light weights and a mat. You can buy it for around $10 at target.

Also I would suggest taking short walks throughout the day. They will all add up!

Also, talk with your dr for some suggestions. Good luck!!

Also agree with the Jillian Michaels DVDs. the 30 day shred isn't easy by any means, but the workouts are only 20 minutes so you should be able to work it into your day. And there are modifications for the harder moves until you get used to it.

I've also heard that Turbojam (kickboxing) is a lot of fun. I've done the kickboxing from P90X and it's great, although it's about an hour.

It took me awhile to find exercise that I can do for the rest of my life. Walk at Home (or the older Walk Away the Pounds) by Leslie Sansone did it for me. No equipment needed, anytime of the day, short or long. So simple I can even use my own music ... here's a clip

She even has a DVD called "Walk Down Your Bloodsugar"

For beginner strength training I recoomend Power Fit .... these are 20 minute workouts that use a resistance band. Stephanie Huckabee is such a sweetheart, very encouraging. When you become more advanced, just do a couple of these with a stronger band.

I would also recommend getting up early to exercise. Or at least planning to. I get up between 430 and 5 every day to have a chance to work out before getting myself and my boys out the door by 7am. My theory is if I set my alarm for 430 and don't get up at least I have the rest of the day to make it up. If I plan on exercising after work, by the time I'm home and the kids are in bed I'm exhausted and I've lost my opportunity to exercise for the day. I go to bed by 9 most nights to be able to get up early.

    Good luck!!
  • It's tricky to get up early as I have to be at work at 6:30 AM as it is and usually I am home by 5pm or so but it is usually around 8pm before I have everything done for the kids....

I have 2 kids and workout when they go to bed, around 8:30PM. Most nights I don't want to but what's 30 mins out of your day? You can go to bed at 9. I pop in a dvd (step aerobics, Jillian Michaels, Leslie Sansone) or go on the elliptical.

p.s. I cannot get up early to workout - 6AM is early enough!

Try some yoga or core training beginning routines - there are videos on Hulu and Netflix you can do for free.

Try to sneak it in during the day to get something in. For example use your lunch break to walk and then eat while you work if you job allows you too. Some simple changes can help make a difference... Park in the last row, take the stairs whenever possible, go for a quick walk for each break. You would be surprise how it all can add up.

Wow, it sounds like you have quite a hectic schedule, so I would suggest that you start by trying to build exercise into the things you already do. Take the stairs rather than an elevator. Park your car further away and walk. When I am at home, I try to avoid just sitting on my butt. If there's something on TV I want to watch, I try to get some housework done (fold laundry or something) at the same time. Also, try to find things you can do with your kids. Go to the park, ride bikes, just play.
