When should I read the Calories on my Heart Rate Monitor?

Hi Pals,

After my gym session today a question arose.
When do I stop counting how many calories I've burnt.

e.g. For a 60 session would you:

1- Take the total number on the HRM when you finish
2- Work out how many calories you burnt on each machine (e.g. 25 minutes jogging & 25 minutes Cross Trainer- 10mins less)
3- When you take off the HRM in the changing room

What do we think?

Thanks in advance,

Loozin

I start my HRM as soon as i step on a machine. as far as when i stop counting....ususally i wait until i "cool down" and my heart rate is below 100bpm and close to my resting heart rate....

^^^ this. when you do cardio workouts, your body continues to burn calories at much higher than resting state for up to 2 hours post exercise, ( or thereabouts)....but i wouldn't wait 2 hours post exercise..wait until your HR is near resting, then log it or write it down.

Thanks for taking the time to reply guys.

So you think it's better/acceptable to take the reading when I'm back in the changing room and preparing my after workout shake?

Counting for each individual machine the total came to about 700.
From Start - Finish (on the machines it read 777)
By the time I'd got back to the changing rooms and got ready for the Sauna/Steam it was 837 - getting changed ain't no joke after exercising at this weight - lol.

I'm gonna put down the changing room number from now on - YaY !

    Thanks again,

    Loozin

p.s. off to update yesterdays number now too
