so i have a question.... is it bad to eat a negative amount of calories?
for example: if i eat 1,400 calories in a day but then i work off 1,500 calories, which technically means i had -100 calories. i'm wanting to know if that is hurting my body or slowing down my metabolism.
yet i feel that if i eat more i will be pigging out.... and i know today will be the same :ohwell: because so far i've eaten about 900 calories and i still have to eat dinner. but i'm going to be playing water polo for 2 hours tonight so by the end of the day i'll probably have burnt at least 2,000 calories!!!! sorry for the rambling... but if you have an answer please share!

Yes, absolutely. That's bad for your body.

Think of your body as a car and food as gasoline. You've got to put food in the tank. Imagine if you tried to run a car, but first you drained the gas tank. Food=fuel.:flowerforyou:

Yup, not good for your body, and it will stop you from losing weight. Your body will go into starvation mode, and store anything it can, and not let go of its fat stores easily. You should eat the number of calories MFP gives you, plus eat back at least half of your exercise calories (some people say all, some say less - you have to figure out what works for you)

It is best if you plan out your exercise and food at the beginning of the day, that way you can space out your calories and not feel like you have to stuff yourself at the end of the day. Add in some high cal high protein snacks like some nuts, or few tbsps of PB and maybe a glass of milk during the day.

Good luck, and have fun playing water polo tonight :)

    Hey,
This is so bad for the body. You not only slow the metabolism but you also lose muscle mass that is necessary for your body. I made that mistake and thought that it would not have an impact on me but it did and now it has taken me a long time to rebuild and repair my body. I have now lost a total of 138 pounds and starting to gain muscle mass again. Please do not make that same mistake. Your body needs the food so it can burn as fuel to aid you in this journey. Never go below 1200 calories for more than 2 days at the time. God Bless, brenda
