Does anyone know where these can be purchased? They are somewhat larger than the hoops we played with as children. I have looked in a sporting goods store without any luck.

  • I got mine from a friend that made them. You can make your own, there is a utube site to show you how. I just didn't want to take the time. I love mine, it keeps me moving and fun!!

I hoop too! Yay! Go hoopers.

I always have mine made by buddies, but I recently found this etsy store that makes them really cheap.

There are basic ones for 20, super nice ones for 30-40 and all have the option for collapsible.

I got a travel one from Hoopnotica that came with a video (that I have yet to actually watch). The hoop comes apart in sections so that you could travel with it (if you wanted). I've just messed around with the hoop after other workouts to stretch out my abs....and have fun. =)

This link has the most info I think, but I bought mine on Amazon.
The link also helps with which weight to choose.

I took me ages before I could even keep the thing up and spinning, it's quite hard, but great fun.

Funny, right after this post, I ended up at Walmart and saw they had collapsible ones in the fitness/sports section made by Danskin. They are in a box and iirc were around $20. They weighed 2.5 lbs, so would be good for all the hooping videos.

Thank you so much. I really didn't want to go online to purchase one. I would love to see them in stores. I will be checking at Walmart today.

Are you doing it to hoop dance or to build muscle? I have been hoop dancing for years and I stupidly bought a weighted hoop recently and I think they are dangerous and not worth it. However, the adult hoop I got from hoopnotica is great and builds muscle. It helped me lose 20 pounds. If you are just looking to build muscle I say weights/kettlebells are a better bet than a weighted hoop.

WARNING: Do not try to do hoop dancing tricks with a weighted hoop. You can seriously hurt yourself. I have even met a woman who broke a rib just going around her waist. Please be careful.
