Hi everyone! I'm planning to start taking a belly dancing class here in my home town once a week, as well as use a home belly dancing video once a week (in addition to my yoga video). I was wondering if anybody here wanted to start along with me, so we can support each other? I've always suffered from low self esteem and I want to be a part of something that makes me feel gorgeous as well as something that helps me slim down

-you can burn as many calories belly-dancing as you can walking, swimming or riding a bike.

I love belly dance! I did it for a couple years and then had to stop because of scheduling issues

I just recently signed back up...my first class was last week. It's for a veil type dance, so there is lots of arm work...my arms, upper back and shoulders were sore for 2 days afterward!! :blushing:

You'll be hooked once you get into it.

    Shimmy, Shake, Undulate!

  • I would love to belly dance!!! I have a video on belly dancing that I did before I moved, but now I can't find it. I'll have to look for it, in the meantime I will google classes in our area and see if I can sign up. I'll keep you posted, but I would love to be a part of this group!!

Sounds fun! I started a Polynesian dance class years ago but was
pretty klutsy trying to undulate my belly round & round, in & out!

    Hi Everyone!

How's it going? Anyone had classes yet?

I went to my second class last night (last weeks was canceled  )... it was a hoot! My arms are sore again today, but nothing like after the first class.

I do need to practice during the week, just for what the instructor calls muscle memory... and so that I don't trip all over myself - I'm such a clutz....:blushing: and so that my arms aren't so sore. I had trouble holding the correct position a few times...

Barbarella, I think polynesian dancing sounds like fun too! I'll have to look into that as well.

    Shimmy, Shake, Undulate!

I haven't had the chance-I was about to start a class but then money got kind of tight....ugh! I'm restarting my Netflix subscription next week and I'll be getting some videos tho!
  • Belly dancing is just plain fun for women of any age! I took a belly dancing class a year or two ago during the school year. It will give you amazing control of your stomach muscles that normal exercise can't do for you. It helps boost confidence. There's this totally smexy walk that belly dancers do across the floor. It helps arms and posture. It can be really intense too when the beat of the song is fast. I'm totally considering signing up again...next semester.

    Rabbit,

Sorry you weren't able to sign up for class, it can get pricey...definitely get the vids and work that belly...and hips, and thighs, and calves, and shoulders and arms...

My veil work isn't graceful at all... it's quite comical, maybe one day...
