Dessert is NOT my friend

I started using MFP in November 2010 and lost a net of 68 pounds in the process. I've managed to maintain in the 150s for a year.
My problem is this:
When I was actively losing weight it was a thrill to get on the scale each day and see that number get lower and lower. I had an actual reward for my good behavior and, as such, I stayed away from all the food that made me gain weight in the first place.
Slowly but surely, though, over the last year I've told myself over and over that I can eat this or I can eat that because (1) I'm not trying to lose weight anymore and (2) I eat this garbage and somehow the next day the scale doesn't reflect a substantial weight gain.
I felt better when I wasn't eating processed food, caffeinated drinks, SALT, etc., and I know that I will feel better again if I stop now.
How have you been able to work up a second wind of willpower to take care of yourself the way you know you should?
Has it been daunting to know that cookies really are a gateway drug and if you intend on making this a true lifestyle change you are going to have to be faithful with eating right?
Any words of wisdom is appreciated

We don't just diet to get into good shape...we change our lifestyle so that we stay in good shape.
Having said that, it's okay to have a cheat day once a week to enjoy your desserty type of goodies. Just don't over-indulge.0 -
Maybe try weighing once a week so that you will see the cumulative effect of what you are eating. Usually I can be lax for a week with no real gain (Maybe half a pound), but week 2 it is noticeable. phinphanbill is right though, you have to make room for the indulgences sometimes or you're setting yourself up for failure.0
