Upper Body/Lower Body Split Routine

Can anyone out there recommend a good heavy lifting upper body/lower body split routine?

My current workout schedule is below:

Monday-Rugby practice
Tuesday-Upper body strength and HIIT training
Wednesday-Lower body strength and steady paced cardio
Thursday-Rugby practice
Friday-Rugby game
Saturday-Upper body strength and HIIT training
Sunday-Lower body strength and steady paced cardio

I did a full body strength training program from January to March, and I've been following a split program that I put together on my own since the beginning of April.

While I've seen some benefits I have a feeling I'm missing exercises or doing them in the wrong order, or trying to do too much at once.

My goal is to gain strength and maintain my current weight. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It looks like you're an in-season athlete then? If so, then I'd recommend taking a look at this method.

Towards the end of the article is an IN-SEASON program to follow, which might be better suited for you than a 4-day split.

Thanks for the response! I am in-season now, and will be until the end of August, so I'll give that a try. Thanks again!

The off-season / regular training method he starts with is pretty awesome too. If you read around his site and look at his client list he really knows his stuff.

Yah I went through it, it sounds fantastic! And when I read through the comments at the bottom, I noticed a few other rugby players raving about it. Definitely something I'm going to check out further. Thanks again, from what this looks like, I have been training wrong.

Will give that link a read JNick77 - looks interesting after a quick skim. Was meant to be in off season for basketball now but joined a Wednesday opens comp so in season training tips could be useful.

If you go back through his site checkout his client list, many pro-athletes. That's his specialty, training athletes.

@hnsaunde: He has an article on their called something like, Not All Muscle is Made Equally or something like that. Basically it talks about the different fibers and how they're used in athletics. This will definitely help you improve athletically. :)

I've read through the entire site now, and I agree with all of this. I definitely think this is the direction I'm heading in :)
