Anyone else lose weight from turning vegan? Going raw? Going high-carb, low fat? I hope i'm not alone here.

I'm not following 80/10/10 specifically but I eat a low-fat, high-ish carb, mostly vegan diet, and while I do eat a lot of raw food, I don't think I could ever go on a completely raw diet.

As far as weight lost, I'm down almost 75 pounds total eating low-fat vegan.

Edit: I just saw your ticker, and you're already doing well on whatever diet you're following. Good for you!

I'm not a raw vegan, but I am a vegan who just got a raw protein powder. Great job with your weight loss so far!

It seems counter intuitive to eat such high carbs and lose weight, but i'd be interested to hear if it's worked for anyone

The reason high carb low fat works is because even though your carbs are spiking your insulin, you aren't eating a whole lot of fat to store it. This is the same reason the opposite high fat, low carb works. Low carb = low insulin which means that the fat you eat won't get stored into fat. The reason people get fat isn't because of fat or carbs alone, it's because of the combination of two. This is why things like burgers are not great for you (high fat, high carb).

Edit: I am not a doctor but this is my very rough understanding of everything I have read on the topics. I have personally never done high carb low fat (and I am not a vegetarian or vegan), but I do low carb, high fat (about 40 protein/30 fat/30 carbs) and I have lost about 75lbs this way. However, like anything else, you should do what works for you! What works for me doesn't work for everyone.

It does seem counter intuitive, and if it hadn't been for my trip to Asia in 2007, i would have never believed it. I observed with my own eyes thousands of skinny people, who ate nothing but high carb food! Rice and fruit and veggies. Barely any meat. And these people were skinny, and active, and living to their 80s and 90s, with no western healthcare. When i heard of this diet/lifestyle and started reading "The China Study" and "The 80/10/10 diet", and i watched John Mcdougall give a few speeches on youtube, it all started to click. I was resistant at first, but it really makes so much sense. We have been barraged with disinformation in this country to the point where many people on these threads are suggesting limiting fruit and veggies in the diet!

It has worked for a lot of people, and i am hoping it will continue to work for me. I have no doubt in my mind that it will.

For me, about 70 LBS lost in 3 months, and still losing.

Hi! What is raw protein powder? I've been looking around for a non-diary protein powder. Thanks!
