Going to family dinner...help!?

OK so I have been very very diligent about making sure to count my calories so far...and have done pretty well! However, tonight I have my first outing going to my inlaws for dinner..and of course I cannot count the calories for the meal exactly. I have already had basically my cals for today...this dinner was a last minute surprise so that upsets me too...

does this ever happen to y'all and how do you cope?

 This is what life is all about! Did you plan to fix all your meals at home forevermore?

Just enjoy the family, have some food, make some healthy choices, don't complain to whoever is fixing the food, and then either guess at the calories or just don't log it.

This is where you learn real discipline.

Try to not stress on it. Unexpected things happen in life. Good and bad situations.

When you have your meal, try to load up on salad and veggies and wise choices. Consider taking you own salad dressing (I use the Spritzer sprays), which add flavor without many calories. Unless you are dining in a fancy restaurant, nobody should object to your bringing a favorite dressing! Matter of fact, my grandkids LOVE the spritzer sprays, they add it to their veggies!!

    Good luck, again, don't stress.

Feeling guilty is going to make your journey unnecessarily harder, just accept the situation as it is, and work around problems the best you can. No biggie. Enjoy life.

I don't really worry about it. Eat small portions and it's all good.

Well If you have truly already eaten all your calories for today, you must not have been planning to eat anymore today...right? So if you are not hungry....don't eat...or let them know you had a HUGE lunch that still has you filled up, explaning that you didn't knw there were such special :noway: plans for dinner.... until....... AFTER YOU HAD ALREADY EATEN LUNCH! If it is an 'insisted' that you eat....a bit of salad,, a protein, lots of laughter and 'time together'...... Be sure to thank them and say something like WOW NEXTTIME I WILL TRY TO BE MORE HUNGRY! (IT SURE LOOKED GOOD!) (REMEMBER THEY CANNOT FORCE FEED YOU ;))!

This happens to me quite frequently. When an unexpected dinner at my in-laws occurs, I do a few things. I fill up on veggies and salad with dressing on the side. I take a small portion of the "bad stuff," and I drink water with the meal.

The next day, I make sure I do an extra ten minutes or so of a workout if I feel like I went over on my calories the day before. Or we go for a long walk after dinner.
