The use of protein powder...

Hi! I am about to start getting into a little heavier weights with the SL5X5 program. I am considering upping my protein intake by using protein powder. I plan on drinking one scoop with 8oz of 1% milk first thing in the morning...then mid day and again as soon as I get in from the workout for total of 3 shakes (24 oz) of milk a day on the workout days and perhaps just one shake in the mornings on the off days. Just wanted to know if that was too much milk to be drinking a day or if it will be ok...

I am not looking to gain huge bulging muscles...just a little stronger...more toned and replace some of this fat with muscle. At 6'2 and 270...any suggestions on how many grams of protein I should shoot for in a day? I have heard 1 gram per pound of body weight...but is that necessary for just wanting to get stronger and more toned?

Shoot for around 1g of pro per lb of lbm

and simply eating a lot of protein will not turn you into the hulk.

If you want more protein with less dairy, there are options.

Isopure protein drinks have 60g protein and no dairy, but man, they're awful. I do it cause I need the protein, but they're nasty tasting.

Alternatively, Nectar by Syntrax is a powder that comes in various fruit flavors (similar to Crystal light) that you mix with water. As long as you drink it from a bottle with a lid, or a straw, you can't smell the protein smell and they are actually pretty yummy. Fairly high protein as well..no dairy :)

Correct. For that, you would need to be exposed to high levels of gamma radiation. :P
