Hi there, my name is Kylee I am a 22 year old Navy Wife, I have been married to my husband for a year and a half now, we have a beautiful 8 month old daughter, and as of this week my husband has left for a 6 month deployment. I am absolutely ecstatic to make some life changes while he is gone, as well as stick to it when he returns...he has given me more motivation then I have ever had before!. I have ALWAYS been overweight, my pre-pregnancy weight was 180lbs...and im only 5'3!! on my delivery date I weighed a whopping 243 lbs!! I wanted to cry because of my weight but shrugged it off because I was welcoming the best thing into this world that has ever happened to me. Since I have had my daughter I have only lost 20 lbs! My husband has never really cared about my weight but I know deep down he would LOVE to see me how I would love to see myself...healthy and fit! My plan is to cut out ALL sweets, fried foods, and soda. As well as begin walking once if not twice a day, I don't know if I am on the right track so any advice is GREATLY appreciated. My husband is "suppose" to be home at the beginning of February and I plan to lose 60 LBS...10lbs a month. I know people have done it before, I just need to be pushed pushed pushed!! I know I can do it, I can't wait for my husband to see my new hot body haha, and to set a good example for my daughter.

    Hi Kylee-

You have set a really good goal and I have faith that you can achieve it if you follow your MFP plan. Always count your calories, no matter how big or small. Even if you steal a french fry from a friend, log it. I have heard two responses from those that just start counting calories, either than they're hungry or that they couldn't eat all the calories. That being sad, don't eat less than your recommended calories and don't eat more. My best tool so far has been buying a food scale from Target. I am always eating fish and chicken and it really helps with my portion control. Best of luck to you. You seem really motivated, and on a side note it really helps to log in and read other peoples posts.

    Good Luck!

Kylee! your story is similar to mine! I started 6 months ago trying to lose an extra 20 lbs that had packed on over the years... It was slow going at first, but then I was put on a 6-month overseas assignment! I decided now's the time. while I am away from my boyfriend I will lose the weight- while it is hard being apart, it really does leave more time for fitness! every time I feel lonely, I go for a workout! the idea that you can totally transform your body by the time you are re-united is a real motivator! It's are someone has the opportunity to show a loved one a real-life before-and-after image, and while the separation is hard, it gives you that luxury! Also, you can really alter your diet. When you are just maing food for yourself, you can be very careful about portions and cal content, i know it's harder when cooking for a family and trying to please a hungry man!

Congratulations on your new baby, being fit for her will be a great motivator, too!
  • I just had a baby 4 months ago myself. I was 125 when I got pregnant and I was 190 when I gave birth. I dropped 17lbs right away and have only lost 10 in the last 4 months. I have been working out at the gym 4 days a week and running 6 miles 3 days a week. I am breastfeeding and have found that it is preventing me from losing at the rate I would like (1lb a week). I am hoping that the weight loss will start up soon because I am extreemly confused and frustrated.

Anyways, before I was pregnant I used to be good at losing weight so I can tell you what worked for me.

    1. This website

    2. 30 minutes of cardio a day where you sweat. - you are going to have to find a way to learn to like this because it's impossible to lose weight without it. I am now addicted to cardio when I once hated every second of it. Try different things until you find something you like, and learn to love the pain because it means youre burning fat.

    3. Don't eat past 7 pm and don't eat carbs for dinner. I am not a big fan of the low carb diet. It does work well but i don't eat much meat and I love my carbs so what I would do is only eat them before my evening workout. Still, you want to limit them and make sure all carbs are complex.

    4. One day I was trying to figure out what I wanted for dinner and nothing sounded good and I didnt have much time because I was on my way to school and something dawned on me; I'm not hungry. From that day on I stopped eating dinner. I realized that the only reason I had been eating dinner was because I had done it my whole life and I felt like I was supposed to. And dinner had always been my biggest meal which is really bad when dieting. So I just stopped eating dinner all together. It saved so much money and time and calories. If I was hungry I would eat an apple and a yogurt. That worked so well for me. I dropped probably 5 lbs just from that change. (5lbs was a lot on my body at that time).

    5. Nothing White - no sugar, salt, white flour, white rice, NOTHING!

    6. Watch out for fruit. Even though it has a lot of health benifits it is loaded with cabrs and sugar. I don't care if it is good sugar, good fat, you hear that crap all the time. It will get you fat. Do not use this as a snack.

    7. Only drink calorie free drinks and watch out for lattes and coffee drinks. Most of those hae anywhere from 300 -600 cals.

    8. If you drink a lot of alcohol you should cut that down to a few drinks a week. Alchol gets you so fat so quick.

    9. Green tea really does work. Drink it in the morning instead of cofee or buy the pills. In fact, I drink it all day long because it curves my appetite while giving me the hand to mouth motion of eating.

    10. Cut out extra calories out of everything you eat. Leave the cheese off the sandwich, the whip cream off the latte, the guacomole out of the burrito. All of those calories really do add up. I am sure there is one ingredient in everything that you can do without and still enjoy.

    11. Portion sizes. That is my weakness. Eat all day long and never let yourself get hungry then you wont feel like you need a big portion.

    12. Observe thin people. Most people who are thin work for it just as hard as you're about to. Watch what they eat, how much they eat, their excersise routines, etc. You can learn a lot from them.

    13. Don't give up. The scale will flucuate by 5 lbs a day, its so frustrating. And there will be weeks when you don't lose anything and weeks when you lose 5 lbs. You need to keep doing what you're doing during the weeks you don't lose and just trust that things will pick up. The body is a strange machine and does what it wants when it wants.

    14. Don't bother with any diet pills, herbal supplements, fads, etc. We have all tried them and they don't work so don't waste your money. IF there was a way to get thin other than excersise and diet then Oprah would be thin. She has all the money in the world and experts who help her daily and she hasn't found the magic pill so it must not be out there yet.

    15. Since you have insurance I would go have blood work done and have them check your thyroid along with CRP levels amongst many other things. Being that you are significantly overweight you may have something going on that is working against you and it would be nice to know and fix. Thyroid problems are very easily treated. Same with most other issues. It wouldnt be a bad idea anyways to tell your doc whats going on and get some advice.

I think that should be all for now. I'm sure that was overwhelming. Good luck!

Hi Kylee, and Welcome! I'm a Navy wife, too, and my husband is deployed. I feel like this is a great time for me to make this change and hopefully surprise him.

MFP has been an amazing gift - I had made no progress the first three months he was gone and I've lost about 20 pounds in the last three months. (He's on a year assignment so I have another six months to keep working.)

If you are in the Norfolk area and you have Comcast, you can get Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred on the On Demand section, under sports & fitness, then exercise TV. It only takes 25 minutes and you can do it any time of day, which helps with a baby.

    Best of luck to you!

Excellent! Thank you so much! I wish I would have thought about on-demand earlier, I actually just ordered the 30day shred this morning online, I hope it does wonders for me like I have heard so many others rave about! I am working really hard at this and cannot wait to see the look on my husband's face when he comes home in February!
