I just joined a gym today but I have a dilemma. I dont have the money to get a personal trainer, so my question is: are there any websites that I can go to that will give me a workout plan that I could use until I can get a personal trainer? Maybe put in what I want to accomplish and give me something? Does that exsist?

nah it's not cheating at all, there are all kinds of resources out there you just have to surf a little, for instance shape magazine has a website that posts lots of different moves and workouts http://www.shape.com/fitness

but I am sure you could find many more by searching

good for you for joining the gym

there may be a free introduction where they will at least walk you around give you tips and info on how to use the equipment - that way you'll see what's there and can find exercises for those machines. Some gyms also have a suggested workout for beginners can't hurt to ask.

that is so not cheating, the only thing i think personal trainers are good for is the speed at which you learn to do things correctly and motivation...but you can get from yourself!

Ha Ha Ha, I think what I do could be called cheating more than looking on the internet.... When I'm at the gym and I see someone with a trainer, I watch what they are doing. Then, I copy it... Yup.... Maybe not right at that instant, but you'll see me try whatever it was before I leave the gym.

I don't get it, why do you consider joining a gym and not getting a personal trainer "kind of cheating"?

You're paying your monthly dues to give you access to the equipment.........

The cardio stuff will be pretty much straight forward.

When you start using the machines (although I'd recommend free weights right from the begining, but I digress) have NO second thoughts about asking whatever trainer is around for help on how to correctly use the machine.

Here's a link to a great web site, this chick in Canada who writes very honestly and in a straight forward manner about women and working out.

    Enjoy!!

I am SO doing this tonight!

I don't think it's cheating at all. I second the free weights- for many reasons. Don't be intimidated by them- they're lovely :)

Any employee should show you how to use a machine at any time- if they don't - find a new gym!

Hope you find a good program for you! :flowerforyou:

When I joined my gym awhile back, they were trying to wheel-n-deal me into trainer sessions. I just denied it, cause I had no idea what "qualifications" these people had. Seriously, like how do you know what quality of training your getting for your money? Over the last couple years now, i've watched these people not only sucker alot of gym members, but just completely waste their time. I'm sure there are some great personal trainers out there, that not only educate and get you on track, but motivate as well. But I watch the fools at my gym and its like they are going thru the motions. They use the same routines, same advice, same suggestions to all their trainee's. Now I have no bachelors in fitness and nutrition and even I know that everyone is different; body style, metabolism, genetics and whatnot. There is no way in hell that the same workout routine is gonna work for everyone. So I find alot of these franchise gyms with personal trainers on hand, to be really sketchy.

I would say, go to your gym. Work up a sweat. Maybe do some reading and talking to other members. You can get some great advice just by making friends in the gym. Over time, you'll see regular members coming in and you'll even see their success and transformation unfold. Watch the personal trainers and how they interact with their trainee's. It doesn't take long to see who knows what their doing...and who's full of crap.

    WHAT HE SAID!!

Girl, off you go to your gym and phuck 'em if they can't take a joke!

This is your life and your journey to a better, healthier you.

TRUST ME pretty much everyone there is so taken up with themselves they ain't lookin' at anyone else.

AND CHECK OUT THE WEB SITE I SENT YOU BEFORE!!!! It's so worth it!

Edited to add: you're not going to figure it all out in the first visit, not the next 10 visits, so go walk/jog on a treadmill. Pick up and put down some weights and don't put a whole load of mental pressure on yourself.

If at all possible go when there are a few people and while you are doing your cardio start watching the people that are using the free weights and also the weight machines. Take a tablet with you and write down what the weight machine is called. The machine will have on there what it is and what body part it will work. Then when you get home look it up on the internet and read up on it. Also you can always ask somebody that is using that machine at that time. I to watch what the personal trainers show to people and I also have to try it out to see if it is something that I would want to try and put into my routine.
