I also vote for Hal Higdon. I followed his plan for my first marathon, and again now for my second. I'm doing a combo of the intermediate 1 and the advanced 1. Basically I'm following the intermediate plan (relatively) and adding in the Thursday speedwork from the advanced plan.0

This is a good website with a training plan and advice: http://www.marathontraining.com/marathon/marathon.html0

I was wondering how far I should be able to run before I even start to train for a marathon? Right now I can only run between 4-6 miles...
I don't have a race in mind, but I'd eventually like to run one. I became addicted to running after the c25k program.0 -

htmlgirl - you are ready. Start with a build up of your mileage: http://www.marathontraining.com/marathon/m_mile.html0 -
Hal Higdon. I'm training for my first marathon using his Novice 2 plan.0

I like the Runnersworld plans. RW includes pace goals for each run.0

I'm a Hal Higdon fan as well. I'll be starting the Half Marathon training in July for my first Half in October. I followed his plan of improving 5k time and dropped 4 minutes off my 5k time.
Good luck to you!0 -
I used Higdon for my first full and had good results. I thought it was a little light on midweek mileage, so I added in a few miles here and there.0

without having an idea of your current fitness/mileage and available time, I wouldn't be able to recommend anything.
Hidgon is a great resource but like some people said, a little light on mileage. Some others are Daniels & Pfitzinger.0 -

you will want a good quality base for 6-12 months before starting a marathon training program. A good base is normally defined by most quality coaches and programs as a minimum of 25 miles per week and able to run 10 miles for a long run.0
