Vacation?

Need ideas for a vacation for my husband and I. $2000 or less for a week. We've taken a cruise, been to Mexico and don't particularly want a beach vacation. Going in August.

Niagara Falls... good for 2-3 nights and not super expensive. stay in one of the tall hotels with a waterfall view, it is great!! and there is a casino, if you are into that.

South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. The Black Hills, Devils Tower, Yellowstone, Glacier and tons of points in between where you live and there.

We took our honeymoon to Idaho, the Coeur d'Alene area. Did some hiking there, art galleries, shops, lake. Also drove to Montana for white water rafting.

Montana sounds awesome , but it's like a 3 day drive from Virginia, no?

What about a cross country drive? Just go driving and see where you end up. Dinner and sleep, then go driving again. Repeat till time for home. Lots of options. Maybe too many?

Canoeing on the Buffalo River in Arkansas comes to mind (that's where we're headed, so I suppose that's why it came so quickly.)

Flagstaff AZ. LOTS to do from one central town. National parks within an hour or 2. Lots of state parks and national monuments close by. And it's a great town to boot.

That's about all I got. I've always wanted to go to Cuyahoga National Park, but haven't so can't recommend it.

Try Alaska.....its beautiful every where you go and they have cruises that also include inland tours, hikes etc. In 1975 I went to spend a couple of months with my brother and liked it so much I stayed six years.

I did this tour a few years ago and it was awesome!!! You can camp and save tons of money! :)

ETA - Like the poster said above, Alaska would be cool!

Japan? You could stay in Ikebukoro, but I think that 2G is only enough for one person.

Ok so now I have been at work for 10 hours and re- thought the 2G vacation, with not all beaches- I originally said Maine, and it is a 12 hour drive, but you also drive up through New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and could detour to New Hampshire and Vermont. so you would have to really plan it out, but if you had 7 days, you could drive 8 hours, maybe stop in rhode island overnight, see the Mansions, or stop in New york/ Conn and plan out 6 nights in different locations. or pick a few spots and stay there longer, If you stay at a reasonably priced hotel, you should be able to swing it on 2 thousand.

But I really don't know if you like to go to one spot and stay there or if you like to travel by car. Or if you want to try to fly somewhere and stay there...or if you like to camp etc. anyway good luck!

You don't want beach or mountains, so go hit a city somewhere.

It is probably is at least a 2 day drive, but there are so many things to see between there and the Black Hills. I live in SE MN and can get to Sioux Falls in 3 hours and the Black Hills in 8. Devils Tower is only 9. My hubby is from South Dakota so we get there quite often. In fact, we're going in a few weeks.
