Calories burned in proportion to fitness

Since starting mfp i think i am much fitter, however according to mfp i'm still burning the same amount of calories. Surely since i am now fitter i burn less calories when I exercise. I know i am probably going faster which means i am burning the same amount of calories but if i put my increased speed into mfp it says i am burning more calories than i was when i was running/bicycling slower but less fit? should i log my speed as slower than it is to make up for my increased fitness?
Thanks
Thanks

The only real way to know might be to get a heart rate monitor to track your specific burns. I was just playing with this today...I did a run that MFP would say burned 670 calories, but due to my fitness level, my actual burn was 405 (a huge difference that I thank Garmin for pointing out to me). If your calorie totals are really important to you, you might think about investing in one. Good Luck!0
