Feeling Disillusioned

Hi Pals,

When starting this (next) weight-loss attempt, I expected to be losing more weight in the early stages as I have done in the past.

I've been very good with regards to calorie intake as specified on here, for the last 2 weeks at least.
But, my weight hasn't been shifting as much as I expected.

I am 268.5lbs.(I only lost 1lb this week)

My Questions are :

1. Am I consuming too FEW calories (1661), if so what should be my daily goal?
2. How can I find out my target daily goals (Carbs, Fat, Protein, Salt) ?
3. What exercise should I be doing to maximise my weight loss? (Currently; Walking, Cross Trainer & Interval Jogging)
4. When is the best time to exercise?
5. What/When should I and shouldn't I eat?

Any advice, on any of the questions, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Loozin

You need to open your diary if you want advice.

You are too impatient. An average of 1-2 pounds per week is where you should be. You have lost weight, if you are accurate about your exercise routine and food logging you will lose more.
(1000 calories for cardio is a lot!) Keep at it, don't just use weight as your only measurement of of success.
Are you losing inches around the waist? Are you stronger? Is your endurance improving? Your weight loss may not be consistent. You may lose some pounds hit a plateau for awhile then lose more. If you are using MFP correctly it should lead to a lifestyle change and the knowledge you need to make the right choices about food. It isn't a diet plan. Those are temporary. BTW I know you are English, but you have to avoid the Fish n Chips. As bad as cheeseburgers and fries over here--about as a bad a choice as you can make.

It appears he has takeaway once a week, which honestly, is fine if he wants to and is still within his other goals. Everything in moderation and all that.

1lb a week is a perfectly acceptable amount to lose OP! Don't worry. You do seem to be erratic with your calories, but then it looks like you've only been at it for a few weeks. Don't worry, you'll settle into it. But you're doing ok.

You seem to be doing okay. One pound is really good. I would up my water intake and cut out soda if you don't have to have soda. But that is all and watch the sodium in the take out. GOOD LUCK! Don't give up! You can do it with a little patience :)

    Thanks for the replies guys,

As it's been said by Jezebel_Barbi, I only have Take Away Friday nights.
And even that is a cut down version, so I'll only have 2/3 of a fish or a mini fish & a small chips.
Not sure how accurate the Calories quoted for that meal is, but try to burn extra calories to compensate.

Regarding the salt consumption, that is at a minimal. I actually cut (extra) salt out of my diet years (5-10) years ago.
There's nothing I enjoy more than a Jacket potato with nothing on it (no butter, no salt)
No salt on my chips either.

I also agree (said it to someone in the gym on Wednesday) I'm inpatient, need to work on that.

    To the journey ahead Pals.

    Yes I am.
Yes, you are right, my clothes are fitting better (notch down on the belt)
My endurance is better to in such a short period in that the walks are becoming easier & jogs are getting longer.

    Thanks for your reply.

1 lb a week is great! You are trying to make a lifestyle change - not a diet. Diets and fads bring the weight back as soon as your "done."

Be patient and practice self-control - you will succeed!!!!

Yes, thinking about it, losing a minimum 1 lb a week is 52lbs in the year, which is 3St 10lbs or 23.5 Kg

    I can live with that.

1-2lbs of weight loss a week is considered 'healthy'. For people with a lot to lose, it will be more... and for people who work out a lot or are starting weight training with a healthier diet you will lose more than that of fat, but will be gaining muscle, and slimming down. Google 1lb of fat vs 1 lb of muscle, 1lb of muscle is like 1/3 of the fat. Keep up with measurements, thats where you'll notice the difference. I hid my scale a few weeks ago because I was getting discouraged by it, even though my pants fit better. SO, I just focus on how clothes fit and how I feel... and now I have the motivation to start a more intense workout :)

    Are 1661 calories enough for a 6ft, 268.5lbs Male ?

For a 6 ' male yes. For a 268 lb . male no. But, that is the point. You want to get in the habit of eating for a 6' male of your goal weight. I noticed you aren't eating back your exercise calories. You might try eating back some on days like Friday when you burned 1,000 calories. Also you aren't tracking fiber and it appears that you are low there. As for potatoes, try some of the smaller varieties. Generally, the smaller varieties of potatoes, even new potatoes, are more better for you than large potatoes. I noticed you are eating a lot tuna--if you can find Tzatziki in the UK (a kind of yogurt dip from the middle east and Greece) try substituting that for the mayonnaise. It is a good low calorie, low fat mayo substitute. Keep at it. I dumped 60 lbs. in 7 months. I'm now actually trying to add some weight back, but by adding upper body muscle not around my waist. These days I'm eating as much as 3000+ calories on big workout days and having trouble eating enough. Some days are 4 meal days. last December I was eating 1500-1700 calories.

I'm going through the same thing. Actually my weightloss has been stalled since the mid dle of March or so. I keep looking at the same 3-4 pounds up and down. I had a goal to be out of the 250's by my birthday (it was in April), but I'm stuck between 262 & 266. I figured something would give, especially since starting Zumba in May, but the numbers won't budge. That being said, I measured last night and learned that I lost a total of 5 inches since the beginning of April. My body is changing slowly but surely.

Reevaluating my diet and exercise program today to see what I can tweak. It's frustrating but I'll keep working at it.

I know I shouldn't weigh myself everyday, but it can get addictive.

I weighed in yesterday as weekends can be bad days and I didn't want to feel discouraged on Monday.
My thinking was weigh myself Saturday, work hard all week negating the possible affects of Saturday & Sunday.

Then I went and weighed myself today too !!!

I was 2lbs down from yesterday.

I'm stopping the everyday weigh from now but will be weighing-in on Saturday Mornings from now on I think.

In my opinion, yes. You want your body to burn its fat stores, right? If you're not feeling deprived, you're good. People have a lot of fears about starvation and wrecking metabolism but your body is designed to burn stored fat as well as food. Burn it, you'll be healthier for having done so!
