SQUATS

I haven't been doing them very long, but I have recently gotten up to being able to squat my body weight (165). I am curious if there is a good rule of thumb as to how much I should be gunning for? When I google it, I see guys squatting 400, so I know I'm nowhere near the 'top' and don't really care to be. What is important to me is a strong core to help my running. Anyone have any ideas?

When I was coaching power lifting, I would tell my female students that their maximum goal for one repetition should be at least twice their body weight. For a normal person not competing I would say your body weight plus 50%, so at 165, your eventual goal should be around 245. Don't worry, you cant get huge and bulky--you dont have the hormones for it. Set your goals in increments of 5 pounds or so. If you aren't happy with how your body is looking with a higher squat, then lower the weight and increase the reps. I believe that your running should keep your thighs relatively slender compared to a power lifters thighs. Good luck.0
