Surprised!

I finally got back to my garden that has been neglected for 3 years, and spent about 3 hours weeding (digging up saplings, chopping down vines, mulching). I only remembered to wear my HRM during the last 45 minutes of it, and burned 270 cals! No wonder I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted and not gain an ounce.

If you've got some land folks, get to gardening. You could cut down on your groceries, eat amazing tasting veggies (nothing like the stuff from the store), AND lose weight!

Yeah!! I'm so excited that I can garden in front of our condo. I have two heirloom tomatoes, three basil, three romaine, and one each mint, sage, oregano, rosemary, and chives. Plus a pot of chili peppers! Summertime is the BEST with fresh veg!!!

(And I was pleasantly surprised at the number of calories it burns, too! How fab is that??)

I'm a flower gardener, but will be converting one of my beds for veggies. That's going to be A LOT of back breaking work, but YAY, more calories burned. This is extra motivation for me to stay on top of my gardening chores.

Yaknow, my gardening actually burned as much as one session with JM's Ripped in 30, and was WAY more pleasant.

Gardening is a total calorie burner! I read in one of my gardening books that a 130# woman in her 30s will burn 5 calories per minute of "vigorous" gardening. :) There's even a MFP cardio entry for gardening.

That, plus all the delicious, fresh, healthy, organic, local, CHEAP veggies!
