Silly question about races

When do you start running? When the gun goes off or when you actually cross the starting line? The only 5K race I've done wasn't a typical one. It was mostly teen and pre-teen girls (girls on the run) and they generally didn't start running until they hit the starting line. I like that, personally, but somehow doubt that's how it works in typical races lol

At most of the races I run the corrals are too crowded to start running before we get to the start line. We all kind of shuffle to the start and then spread out and start running at the line.

Good I like that answer! I am borderline for being able to run the entire thing so 30 feet could make the difference lol!
