If you saw someone wearing a mourning band would you know what it means?

A friend of mine's father died yesterday. I'm a crafty person and I told her about wearing a mourning band. I said things will happen to her in the next few days and life will continue as normal, but people may be kinder if they knew what you were going through. I only see very elderly people wearing them nowadays. Its an old tradition that I wish would come back.

Just curious if others knew what it was and would be tender with someone wearing it.

  • Never heard about it but I think it's great, and we should spread that word about it =( it used to be that widows wore black until the end of their mourning, I think when my hubby dies if he dies before me I will wear black

I've only seen them worn by cops around their badges when someone's been killed in the line of duty, and I've seen mourning ribbons worn when jewish people sit shiva, but other than that, no.

I'm sorry about your friend's dad though.

For those in the Public Service field mourning bands are slightly different than those worn by others. So to answer your question, yes I would know what it means.
