I was wondering how often was too often for a cheat day? Once a week? Once every two weeks or just once a month?

Rather then a cheat day I tend to do 3 cheat meals a week. This works for me for 3 reasons. 1) It gives me more to look forward too and 2) I don't totally gorge on one day, so even if I have been good all week and have a cheat dinner I am often within 200 or less or my calories and 3) It is easier to pass on bad things when I know my next cheat meal is ony a day or two away rather then a whole week.0

Once a month works best for me. :flowerforyou: Cindy0

I don't consider it a cheat day unless I actually go over my maintenance calories. Sometimes I'll do it once a month sometimes twice. If I want something I try to fit it in.0

Once a month. My spouse and I get a babysitter and go out to dinner and whatever... I don't worry about going over on my stats, although I do make sure I choose the healthiest possible options and leave a little of each dish, uneaten.0

usually one free meal a week. But if I spend a day with my friends, I just have a free day instead just one meal.0

I don't do a cheat day...for that can back fire WAY TOO easy. I do a cheat meal...once a week. Often my cheat meal is a pasta.
Cheat days can get VERY costly...in terms of carb, cals, and fat consumption. One cheat day can completely neglect everything good "thing" you've done throughout the week.
I don't recommend cheat days at all...rather do cheat meals!!0 -
I have Saturday's as my free day....I know I have it every week so when i really want something I probably shouldn't have i put it off til Saturday but then by the time it comes around i really don't crave for it anymore works for me anyway0

Thanks,
Lots of great ideas. Cheat meals are a great idea. I am going to try that for now, because I do fear that a cheat day could eventually put me back where I started.0 -
Since I consider what I do for my health as a lifestyle rather that a diet, I suppose cheating isn't an option. So I never called it a cheat day, but I never focus too much on Sundays. I don't record anything, plan exercize, or worry about what time it is for that matter. It is my "day of rest", pardon the pun. The one day that nothing else matters but me and my relaxation. Sometimes I even sleep in and skip service and laze around in my jammies all day.

Plan your cheat day that way you can make up for it over a week or so... but once maybe twice a month is what I do0

I cheat once on Sundays (rest day). :bigsmile:0

I have a cheat day once a week, usually the day after my weigh in so that I have a whole week to make it up.0

I also do the cheat "meal" vs cheat "day"0

That's what I do I don't gorge really but if I don't want to eat breakfast- then I don't. I just relax.
I don't think of it as 'cheating' really- because it's not like I'm on any kind of 'diet' to cheat on. It's just a chill day. :flowerforyou:0 -
I have 1200 calories every day...except for one. Usually mid week...I give myself a day to eat 1500 calories. It give the metabolism a little boost...yet i'm not gorging myself. Still conscious of my calorie counts...and making pretty healthy choices. If you do choose a cheat day, Jillian Michaels even says its a good idea...just don't go over 1800 calories on that day! Good luck!!0
