Hey! Was just wondering about serving sizes. Before I'd just have whatever, but is there a way for me to work out how much I have without measuring religiously? Say like, earlier, I had chilli con carne and I couldn't for the life of me tell you how many grams. Which, obv is an issue cos I need to know to record well. Basically, what does 100grams look like as a general measurement cos I can roughly compare?

    You can calibrate your eye.
    Get your scales out.
Put 100 grams of something on it.
Put 100 grams something else on it.
    etc

Do you have a digital food scale?
  • Unfortunately not. We have the old fashioned "oz" ones at home, and the issue (not an issue that i'm lucky enough ahha) but I don't get the chance to measure myself. I'll have a go measuring in my own time so I can get used to it.

I honestly don't know how you can accurately determine what a specific amount looks like without a digital scale. 100 grams of chili is going to look a lot different than 100 grams of watermelon, and 100 grams of potato chips. There's no "look" to it - you simply have to weigh it, as a gram is a measure of weight, not volume.

Digital scales are not expensive at all. If you search for "food scale" on Amazon, you'll find a lot of them for $25 or less. The most popular one is $25 with free shipping. It's an essential tool; I couldn't do this without one. It's really not as difficult or time-consuming as one may think, and you can get in the habit pretty quickly.
