To take 2 Diurex/water pills to help get rid of a meal you are about to eat that could very well be loaded with sodium?

Why not just add a few extra glasses of water over the next few days and ignore the scale?0

Slippery slope, diuretics. I agree with drink more water.0

could start a bad habit0

Agreed: slippery slope.
Just add a couple of extra glasses of water. Is it really "better" to use a diuretic than just ignore the scale for a day or so?0 -
Extra water is the key. Or eat diuretic foods, like watermelon or asparagus. There are others.0

How about just don't have the sodium loaded meal and opt for a healthy one???0

I only take them when I wake up in the morning after a night/day full of sodium and my fingers are so swollen that i can't make a fist which is 1-2 days a month. Today is my birthday and my husband is making my favorite meal of the 2 that he can cook.0

Why not just ask him to cut back on the salt?
It probably won't work to well either. I think they need to be taken consistently for a day or two before you even notice the difference anyway.0 -
Happy Birthday! Live dangerously.0

I have taken those things a few years ago before I got married and I literally felt like I was having an out of body experience. I went through the day feeling like I was watching myself live life, it was pretty freaky. I am no longer ever gonna take those again.0

Diuretics don't do anything for you... enjoy the meal, drink a little extra water. Cut down on the sodium tomorrow. Eat some food that will quench your thirst too--like someone else suggested.
Repeat: Diuretics don't do anything to get rid of calories or any form of overeating. Enjoy your meal, choose other options tomorrow.0 -
I say uhh no. Drink more water or cut back on the sodium.0

Thanks for all the input. I don't think I will be taking them. I am, however, chugging the water and have been all day. Hopefully I won't screw up my weigh-in tomorrow am.0

Didn't you hear? We have a "no weigh-in on your Birthday Week" rule here.
....at least, I do.0 -
LOL!!! Sorry cmriverside, but I have worked my *kitten* off all week trying to lose at least 2.2 pounds. I won't be sad if I don't make that, but I HAVE to weigh in.0

This is an excellent rule!! One I follow year after year (after year, after year..... sighhh, ok, you get the idea!!).0 -
Slippery slope my friend.. taking pills to rid yourself of calories is considered to be bulimia.0

Not trying to get rid of calories. I work out to lose those. I just don't want swollen fingers in the morning. lol0 -

You might also try elevating your arms and legs. I swell terribly in the heat but I find a couple hours laying on the couch or in a recliner or even laying in the bed with some pillows under my legs will reduce any swelling significantly. Keep the limbs warm, massage them if you want to help increase blood flow.0 -

OOPS... make that 1.3 pounds0 -
I don't think they work that well anyway.0
