Cinema popcorns!

Finally some cinemas, like cineworld, started publicising the nutritional info on their cinema food.

IT is staggering, what is in that large popocorn! Vue cinemas - 1900 calories in one large salty. 1900 calories, more than a large margarita pizza! More than three full blown chocolate cakes!

So there were days a few years ago, when we went to see two movies, i ate two large popcorns by myself, and I was actually proud that i had nothing all day but two popcorns. Jesus christ, I had 4000 calories those days. No wonder!!

Advice to everyone, please try and check out whats in your popcorn and cinema food because you may just get the shock of your life that can ruin your diet. Don't let them! Bring your own little bag of pret popcorn or something, i know that's what I will do... !

Thats mental! Sounds like I'll be taking pizza and chocolate cake to the cinema next time then :)
  • Me and my partner go cineworld most wednesdays and share a large sweet popcorn. I can only ever eat about 1/4 of it but even that much is too much cals to spend on popcorn which isn't even that satisfying. Popcorn for me is just something to eat to watch the movie not because I'm hungry which makes it 10x worse :(

I think as long as you're not going every day its ok, who wants to count cals on a day out? not me lol

I went to watch snow white and the huntsman on saturday and i had a large popcorn with a ben & jerrys sundae, the next day i felt fine and weighed the same. AND it was fun :)

I really hope that was WITH butter LOL. I'm not sure how you'd pack that many calories into the popcorn without the butter topping. I've been making air popped popcorn lately and love it. I can have an entire giant bowl for not many calories.

I've stopped snacking at cinemas. It's saved me TONS of money, which is a plus in addition to the calories saved from not having nachos.

I usually go for the small sweet popcorn when I go to the cinema - the size is just right to hold and to consume, esp. at cineworld. No idea about their nutritional content though, so I've started taking a small bag of nuts and raisins or a graze.com snack to get me through a film...oh, and a bottle of water

Where can you find the nutritional info for different cinemas?

Is it fairly similar between cinemas?

I live in Australia and I can't find the statistics anywhere online and I know it's not on the back of the boxes :grumble:

So you're telling me they inflate EVERYTHING?! :noway: Prices AND food. WHAT'S NEXT???

Seriously though, great advice. I generally stay away from the cinema food because it's so bad for my wallet, but I'm glad to know people can make educated choices about what they eat.

Lorraine, some cinemas have it on their website, for example, cineworld ones are already in the database here. Cineworld is one of the best actuallz - small salty popcorn = around 400 (acceptable for me as its yummy), versus vue small which is around 1000.

It's crazy! Here the AMC theatres post the calories and I couldn't believe how many calories were in the nachos. I used to ALWAYS get the nachos. If I have to have something I now get the kids popcorn, unsweetened tea as my drink and it comes with 100 calorie gummy bears. Not great, but not terrible for you either. The other option is this healthy pack they have with pop chips, dried fruit and something else with a bottle of water.
