Headache NSV

I started this journey not only to look better, but also to feel better. At 32, I am far too young to feel tired all the time, get sore from a 1.5 mile flat stroll, and deal with aches and pains every day.

The biggie was my headaches. Every day, I had a headache it seemed. They ranged from annoying (because it just really sucks to never NOT have a headache!) to full-blown, nausea inducing, lie in a dark room and don't move for 12+ hours migraines. I finally went to my doctor and got 2 different medications, one for the 'regular' headaches, and Maxalt (wonder drug for me) for the migraines. But I was taking the regular one every day, and I knew that wasn't good.

I'm happy to say that with a much better diet - not clean by any means, but I ditched Dr. Pepper (aw, my sweet sweet love affair!), cut back on carbs, and increased my protein, fruits, and veggies - plus regular daily activity, I have far more days with no headaches than with one and my migraines are down to only once a month or so (likely hormonal, not a lot I can do about that :p) My main beverage is water water and more water, with the occasional sweet tea (what, I'm a southern girl!)

I'm happier, I have more energy, and I feel my proper age again, not 20+ years older

Great Job.....it is amazing to me the changes that are happening to my own body with the changes that I have made.

    That's a great one!
I still suffer at times from the pesky daily headaches (I would say they're either hormonal or pressure/weather related), but most times I can pinpoint the food or foods I ate that were likely to bring on the pain!

Glad you're feeling healthier! It really is an excellent pay-off to healthy eating! :)

That's awesome! I too would occasionally get headaches. Cleaned up my diet and controlled the diabetes I had at the time and never got the headaches again!

These are the best NSVs because it shows what a healthy lifestyle can do - improve your life! So great that you've found some relief that isn't from a prescription and it's a testament to the changes you've made.

    That's great!

I was getting headaches, migraines about 2-3 times a week. I've been doing MFP for 2 months and haven't had one headache.

I'm 33 and felt like I was 50......I'm starting to feel my age again as well.I think the biggest thing was walking around dehydrated all the time and not realizing it.......consuming way too much sodium, very little water =migraine.

I'm so happy I clicked on this message board! I too suffer from headaches practically daily. Luckily I've only had a few migraines in my life but they certainly are killer. And even the "annoying and slightly painful" headaches get worse as the day just by sticking around. I have heard that a better diet and being more active can help decrease the number of headaches one gets, but having read your post gave me real hope that there is light at the end of this tunnel. The thought of less/lighter headaches is motivation in itself to get healthier.

It really is! I forget to stop and think sometimes that I am SO much better off now in ways that have nothing to do with my dress size.
