I'm tired. A LOT! I had bloodwork done a few weeks ago - all normal. My Dr suggested sleep apnea maybe, but I don't think I have that. More importantly, I hurt my wrist yesterday, and took a vicodin to ease the pain and help me sleep. I slept much better than usual (not enough though apparently).

if it were sleep apnea I doubt that would have helped.

I'm just not getting into deep enough sleep and staying there. The slightest thing wakes me. It's not insomnia, just not DEEP sleep.

My husband had lost a good deal of weight about a year or 2 ago, and he reminded me this morning that he ended up with HORRIBLE insomnia. He couldn't sleep. He had gone to the Dr for medicine to help him sleep. I dont' want to start sleeping pills, everyone I have talked to ends up getting addicted to them - they can't ever sleep without them - that scares me.

Does anyone have any suggestions to help with this? how can I get into a DEEP sleep without medication? Please, I am getting desperate. I barely make it through the week and on Saturday end up sitting in the lazboy most of the day dozing in and out from utter exhaustion. By the time i feel somewhat normal, it's sunday afternoon, and I didn't get anything accomplished.

I'm so very tired. today i found my eyes closing on the drive on the expressway to work, just briefly a few times, and i caught myself.

Please. Ideas please.... and has anyone else dealt with this losing weight? (my husband said he heard from a lot of people who lost a lot of weight that this was normal - I haven't lost a 'lot' but..?)

Ask your doctor for a referral to do a sleep study evaluation. You may very well have apnea, but there are other conditions that can also be factors, and a sleep study will help pinpoint that for you. My partner has obstructive apnea. She had a study done and uses a bi-pap machine to sleep now and it has made an unbelievable difference.

Something that helps me is melatonin (found in the vitamin section of the store). It doesn't work for everyone, but it does the trick for me.

Also, something a Naturopath suggested was a night time routine before going to bed. Consists of taking the melatonin, taking a hot shower or meditating, and absolutely no screens 30 minutes prior to bed. That means no phone, computer, TV, etc. This gives your brain a chance to relax and get into the right mode for sleep. I have taken to reading for 15 to 30 minutes while the melatonin kicks in and I definitely sleep much better than if I watch TV right up until bedtime.

I remember getting a couple of good bouts of insomina while I was losing weight, but never connected the two... but maybe there was link.

Good luck and I hope you get a good night's sleep soon!!

1-3 grams of taurine 30mins before bed, helps me get a deep sleep. Here is a bit of info on it, it also has other benefits too

    Thanks everyone!!!

I will try the Taurine (and I also bought some magnesium to take with it per the article) - should be here in 2 days, i hope, and then I can give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestions! if it doesn't work, I'll do the sleep study. I'm just so loathe to having a machine on my head at night :( I know it may be necessary if that is what it is, but I'm going to try the supplements just in case it's something like this. makes sense to me, since i've been lifting weights for the past 2+ months, maybe there is a connection there.

    thanks again!

O M G !!! He was SOO RIGHT! sniperzzzz you are AMAZING! I took this for the first time Wednesday night. I thought on Thursday I noticed a difference, but didn't want to jump the gun. I felt better rested but was still tired (after weeks of sleep deprivation, no wonder) I took it again last night, and awoke so refreshed after less than 7 hours of sleep, that I jumped on the elliptical and did 30 minutes.

I have put in 3 workouts today, and was bummed because I FORGOT my FitBit this morning. It would have been awesome to see how good the burn was but I had to guestimate it. Still, I feel GREAT. I can't imagine how much energy I will have now that I am getting better sleep.

Sniperzzz, I'd HUG you if I could!! I went from my eyes trying to drift closed while driving from exhaustion, to having a lot more energy because I am SLEEPING at night! YOU ROCK!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Isn't that what they put in Red Bull? That's kind of funny. I might try this too (the taurine, not Red Bull). My sleep has been sub-par lately. Do you have to take it consistently or does it work right away?

It works right away for me with doses of 3 grams and upwards 5 being the limit, or as schustc mentioned you could combine it with magnesium. I get taurine, from a bulk powder supplier online, but you can get it local from health stores too. And yes its the same stuff they put in redbull it has multiple uses, one being a neurotransmitter.
