Haven't been here in four months due to illness, so I'm back...Lungs are better and I have 20 pounds to drop from "medicine weight" and some crappy eating of course. I'm hoping I can get support here and keep track of everything I eat easier. If anyone is out there with asthma....Please HELP! I can't run like a lot of people, and get winded easily if I try...ARC Trainers seem to be my way to go....Any Ideas?
I'm just getting frustrated!!!!

Thanks all,

Nic

    Hi Nic!

Have you ever thought about giving bellydance a try? It's excellent exercise for women of all ages...it is so much fun...it is also a healing and spiritual feminine artform...it makes you feel so good about yourself....I know you were a tomboy, so was I...I didn't find bellydance until I was 48 and looking for a feminine hobby...I fell in love with bellydance...if you take live classes in your community you will find a new sisterhood as well!

I'm 50 now and have lost 20lbs since this picture was taken...now I'm working on proper nutrition so I can lean out a bit more...I still have about 40lbs I'ld like to trim.

    Take care,

I'll have to see what I can find in the way of bellydance...My aunt used to do it and she loved it, maybe she can help me out!

    Hi Nic

I am a fellow asthmatic - although not too severely affected. I get exercise induced asthma when my allergies are particularly bad. Because I live with a number of my allergens, it is always there but under control.

I also experience breathing difficulties (mostly short of breath and coughing) when I try to run or do any vigorous aerobics. It gets better when I am in better shape, but is always a bit of a balancing act.

I would check with your doctor before diving too heavily into anything, but I can tell you about a couple of activities that seem to work for me..

Yoga and/or Pilates is all about breathing properly, so may be a really compatible exercise for you. It also kicks my butt and is a really effective exercise for the whole body (have you ever seen a Yoga or Pilates instructor with excess fat anywhere?).

I also swim. I do find that if I push too hard (particularly swimming freestyle) I can get short of breath pretty easily. However, if I do an easy breaststroke, it feels really good. Again, a great exercise for the whole body.

Good luck and keep in touch - I'll be thinking of you.

    Janie
