Lapping everyone on the couch

I've never seen this phrase before yesterday, but it rang so true for me:

No matter how slow you go, you're still lapping everyone on the couch

I used to have illusions of losing enough weight to be a runner some day, but after my doctor said, "quit running or someday you won't be walking either" I quit running. Now I'm a walker. I walk whenever I can and swim more (because that doesn't aggravate the injury that caused my doctor to utter his now famous (in my mind) words). But sometimes I feel like people are judging me. I'm pretty sure no one actually is, but when I'm out there walking and I look exactly the same as the last 5 times I was out there walking, I can't help but think why am I even bothering. Is it really doing any good?

Well it is doing good. Everytime I get up and walk, even if it's just 15 minutes here or 30 minutes there, it's 15 minutes that I was parked in front of the TV and it was 30 minutes where I wasn't trying to justify a bowl of chips.

So if you think you can't "exercise", I ask, can you walk? Because if you can walk, you are doing your body a good turn. I started by walking 10 minutes away from my house and 10 minutes back. And the next week, it was 12 minutes away from my house and 12 minutes back. I now have a loop around the small town that I live in that is about 65 minutes. But it started with 10 minutes out and 10 minutes back. I was 300 lbs and now I'm not. You can do it too!

I am also NOT a runner - it hurts my knees and I plod like a elephant . . . . but I can and DO walk. Wishing you continued success!

    Yes! Great post!

Like you, I give myself credit for any exercise I do, since it is time not spent just sitting.

Keep movin' and, like the above poster, I wish you continued success!

    Great post! And so true!

Whenever I enter a small race (with less than hundreds entrants), I'm always afraid I'll come in last. Then I remind myself that even if I do come in last, I'm ahead of all those people that didn't bother to sign up.

And like my Weight Watcher leader pointed out at our last meeting... each and everyone of us walked through that door, so there's no reason why we can't walk a bit farther or bit longer.

Glad you have found some activity that works for you! :flowerforyou:
