Hello!
My name is Lacoya, and this is my 3rd time losing weight (the same weight over and over). I've been overweight for the majority of my life and have always been on the heavier side. I would say this came mostly from the way I was raised with big dinner, no depriving yourself of foods and drinks that your body says "yes, please" to, no encouragment to exercise, etc. (Not to say my parents are not AWESOME - it just wasn't something that was emphasized at all).
Anywhoo, once I left for college (3.5 hours away from home, with no car), I had to walk everywhere - to classes, dorm, all meals, etc. Of course, the weight came off, however I was not toned at all. I had a child during college, which did not help, because I got a car during that time, and drove everrryyyywhereeeeee. :-)
I entered graduate school shortly after undergrad, and two of the ladies I attended with and myself decided to join Weight Watchers. We also joined a group fitness at my apartment complex, which was two days a week, and worked out on our days most of the other days. My schedule was optimum, I was always out of class before 2 (some days I didn't have a class), so my schedule was pretty much great. We all lost a minimum of 20 lbs on Weight Watchers and we were going strong....until...Spring Break. We let everything go and decided to "treat" ourselves. Big mistake. It was very hard transitioning back into that "healthier" lifestyle after eating everything you wanted, and so we slowly fell off the WW bandwagon and began to gain the weight back.
Anywhoo, soonafter, we graduated and got full time jobs. Now it is very hard (or not as easy as it was) to incorporate good workouts into my schedule due to my job, church, sorority, and my other aspirations in life. But I guess it all comes down to, prioritizing, scheduling, and making room for the things that I want out of life. And getting to a weight where I feel good about myself is very important to me. Therefore, I must make room for it.
I'm trying out MyFitnessPal because it's less calculating than Weight Watchers and it's easier for me to track food without doing all of the adding, subtracting, calculating, etc. especially for foods without points on the front. This is just much more straightforward AND it's FREE! Don't get me wrong, I LOVED (and still do to a point) Weight Watchers, but at this point in my life with so much going on, it's just not realistic for my current lifestyle.
So, with all that being said (I'm long-winded, I know), here's to WEIGHT-LOSS and A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE! *cheers* :-) Nice to meet you all!
