half-marathon

Has anyone here done a half-marathon (21k)?
I injured my knee about 8 weeks ago and have just started running again this week. I am really surprised that I have not lost my cardio since I stopped for two months. I can run my 5k a day, no problem but my knee isn't 100% yet.
There is a half-marathon in 5 weeks that I am wondering if I can be ready for, given my knee still needs some healing which will make for inadequate training.
If my knee isn't better by then, I won't do it, but if it is, I am wondering if I will be able to get through it!

I've only done one and am currently training for my second one in October. I'm using Hal Higdon's training. You can access it on line. But he usually suggests 12 weeks of training. I'm sure you've already checked with your physician, depending on what your knee injury was. You may want to look at Hal's program and see if you are up to what he may have someone doing in the last 4 -5 weeks to get a better sense of your capability with your knee and current fitness.

There is the link for his 1/2 marathon program.0 -
I plan on walking a half-marathon on September 13 in celebration of my baby's 1st birthday and my healthier lifestyle.
I don't know about recovering from injuries.
But maybe you could plan on walking it?
best of luck!0 -
I did a half last year. It took me about 8 weeks of training, but I probably could have gotten away with 5 weeks. Here are a few things to consider though... First of all, I'd talk to your doctor about the extent of your injury. What is your maximum mileage? You said you do 5k a day, but do you do longer runs as well? I guess it depends on your base. Maybe a half would be pushing it this soon after an injury. Whatever you decide, good luck and get well :drinker: :flowerforyou: :drinker:

I will be doing my 4th Half in 9 weeks. I've worked through injuries before and continued to train but never with a knee injury. What was your mileage like before? You talk about running 5Ks but what is the longest run you've done in the last year? If you've run long runs in the past, you could probably work up to a half in 5 weeks. Why is this half important to you? The fall is usually full of good runs. Are you working with a sports doctor? Do you know what caused your injury?0
