Hey! I am home for the summer, and currently not working either. Therefore I cannot get a gym membership or afford any equipment, but I want to build some muscle. My arms are good as I've always had more upper body strength. My lower half, however, is where I gain all my weight. I have some thighs, and they're not firm in the least. I'd really like to be able to build some shape there, as well as my butt. I hate chicken legs (though that's not even possible for me). I don't want to do lunges and squats all day everyday. Anyone have any ideas on variety?

I am also doing insanity, but that's a lot of cardio.

My lower body is my biggest problem area as well... I just hate lower body workouts. But they are necessary if you want toned thighs and a perky bum :D
I don't know how long you've been doing Insanity, but I would think by the end of the program you'd be well on your way to having the lower body you want. Even when I just did it half-a$& I got pretty good results. I've also done Turbo Fire which was a pretty good workout for your lower body and was really fun. You might also think about kick-boxing like workouts. These keep you moving and still doing lunge/squat like moves without it feeling like you're just doing lunges and squats :) Hope this was helpful and good luck!

What about running on an incline or running stairs? Both would burn calories and build a nice tush.
  • Thank you

For upper or lower body, you can get a lot of ideas using your own body weight: squats, lunges, steps, stairs, pilates, etc.
I've gotten some good, no cost ideas when searching the web for "plyometric training"

Great to incorporate on days when you can't get to the gym, for any motivated "loser." Tone up, move on.
